  1. It was... Solid. It wasn't a revelatory experience, and some of it even felt a bit trite. Helmut Bakaitis might as well have been cast to play Wilford. The ending wasn't as smart or innovative as a lot of people are making it out to be, and spare me any "I didn't get it" comments. I got it. That said, it's slick, stylish, and well-directed. I appreciated the exposition (or lack thereof). The action scenes were cool and memorable. The ensemble was great. Swinton was a standout. Evans was rock-solid. It's a solid B for me right now. I enjoyed it, but it's definitely behind Apes as far as 2014 sci-fi goes.
  2. Starting Snowpiercer now. Hope it's as good as people have made it out to be.
  3. I actually thought of TLoU when watching this as well, if only because their post-apocalyptic worlds looked similar. Also thought of "The Road" a bit.
  4. Hey, let me try to read through the thread and respond to a post from five hours ago in peace!

  6. Yeah, the characters were anything but thin. Caesar is one of the most complex, best-developed characters in recent cinema. And I disagree about the pacing being an issue as I've seen said in this thread as well. This had the best pacing of any blockbuster I've seen in the past few years. It wasn't fast-paced, but every scene was incredibly tense.
  7. TLTWTW is an iconic book. Prince Caspian... Not so much. And Narnia is completely different from HP in that Narnia is a bunch of self-contained stories with different characters in each.
  8. The humans definitely weren't the focus, but I thought they were good when they were given stuff to do. Oldman's scene with the IPad after the power was turned back on was very emotional. Clarke was good throughout. The kid's scene with Maurice and the book was cool.
  9. That shot with Koba and the tank... 'Nuff said. A+
  10. It's better than Gravity, which I really didn't enjoy all that much, although I recognize its technological brilliance. But better than the Matrix? Not sure I'd go that far. Inception was a 10/10 for me on first viewing, but the "explain everything to the audience" exposition can get a bit tiresome on repeated viewings. That's my only complaint, though. Tremendous final act. 9/10
  11. Awesome. A little video-gamey at times, but that was expected with the premise. I could have done without the newsreels used as exposition and the mimics could have been a bit better, but all in all, this was a fantastic summer blockbuster. This should make Blunt a star. A-

  13. I don't think the silent movie-like first act went over well with a good portion of the GA. I loved it, but I know a lot of people who really didn't.
  14. People are complaining about Ra's? Honestly, I wasn't a fan of the whole "fake Ra's" twist, but Ra's al Ghul is a great villain (best Batman villain outside of the Joker imo). I thought Neeson was good in the role.
  15. One of the most self-indulgent films I've ever seen. It's beautiful; I'll give it that, but it's too ambitious for its own good. D+
  16. Great weekend. Regardless of how big Sparks is, I didn't see anywhere close to $40M for the Vow.
  17. Eh for Muppets.Awful for BD.Nice for Hugo. This thing may not be dead.
  18. Completely expected for BD. Bad for about everything else, including holdovers.
  19. Very good number. Apparently the fourth book isn't hated as much as we thought it was.
  20. $135M is around expected. But we all knew that it would do at least somewhere around that. Happy Feet 2 is a little bit less certain. I'd love to know how it's doing.
