  1. 1- Buffy the Vampire Slayer2- WKRP IN Cincinnati (a rare sit com that holds up long after the show ends)3- Black Adder4- Breaking Bad5- Dexter/True Blood (tie)
  2. I'd love to see that, but it's already in second run theaters and another $1.8 mil seems unlikely. It should hold quite well with the holidays coming but even the $900,000 needed to pass Bridesmaids will be tough unless it lingers in theaters another 4 weeks.
  3. I know I'm probably the only one still watching the Bridesmaids vs. The Help race but I just find it so fascinating. 2 movies so similar but so different that have paralleled each other since their opening weekends and have been very close each week since. The Help is winding down doing just $280,000 this weekend and looks to fall just a wee bit short of Bridesmaids when all is said and done but it'll be really close. Bridesmaids- $169,106,725 The Help- $168,214,000
  4. Season 4 was amazing, one of the best seasons of any show ever. When gus walked out of the room and adjusted his tie I was "WTF?", then he turned and we saw this, and I was speechless.http://img192.imageshack.us/img192/5153/episode413gusface560.jpgFigured I better edit the picture to a link to avoid spoiling anything.
  5. This has been a top 3 show for me since it started, but this year it hit #1. Walt is turning into an evil genius, anyone who saw the final scene of the season finale will know just how much he was thinking ahead and just how far he was willing to go. A damn shame there's just 1 season left, but at least there's a lot of time for the writers to map it out and give the show a proper conclusion.
  6. For me this is the best new drama of the year. When I saw the pilot I was thinking it would be one of those shows that becomes really good or get into ridiculous story lines very quickly, thankfully it is the former. The only problem these days is there are actually too many good dramas, it's getting difficult to make time for them all, it's almost a blessing that the AMC and HBO series are so short (Breaking Bad, Dexter, Walking Dead, True Blood).
  7. MELANCHOLIA 4:10 showing, close to 100 people Trailers: Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy We Need To Talk About Kevin Albert Nobbs Carnage A Dangerous Method Wow, what a great set of trailers, I hadn't seen any of these trailers before and they all looked good. Not much of a crowd reaction to report, it was deathly silent through the entire movie, apart from a few chuckles at the guy who refused to look at the bride. My take on the movie: It was slow, methodical and depressing, but I really liked it! That being said, I think it would be a really hard movie to ever watch again. It was beautifully shot and the raves I heard about Kirsten Dunst performance were spot on, I didn't think she had that kind of performance in her, even though I always liked her as an actress. I went into this with the same hope and expectation I had when I saw The Tree Of Life, I'm just so glad this didn't disappoint me like TTOL did. 8.9/10
  8. #1 - Black Swan #2 - Easy A The rest: Kick-Ass Inception How to Train Your Dragon Despicable Me Let Me In RED Scott Pilgrim I saw The Devil (easily the most twisted and messed up movie I saw in 2010)
  9. So, is a 14k average on 19 screens a decent number for Melancholia? I'm hoping it gets an expansion next week so I can see it here.
  10. I really don't like predicting a winner until I've at least seen the majority of movies likely to be nominated. Up to this point the only candidates I've seen are... Midnight in Paris- Solid bet for a nomination, but a longshot for the win. Tree of Life- Another solid bet for a nomination but it is a polarizing movie, people either loved it or hated (I'm in the camp that was bored to tears) it which should water down the votes making it a longshot. The Help- Another easy nomination. A well acted crowd pleaser and probably the current leader for films already released.
  11. I probably won't be there midnight but I'll be there the first showing after I'm off work that Friday.
  12. I'd say I've tracked boxoffice since 1999, when American Pie came out. It always fascinates me when ultra low budget movies break out and put up blockbuster numbers.
  13. Immortals 5:20 showing in 3D ULTRA AVX 420 seat theater SOLD OUT! I have to say if this theater is any indication this movie is massively underestimated. I was actually planning to see the 2:40 showing and didn't think there was any need to get there early, the movie only had lukewarm reviews, it was in the biggest theater and it was the first show of the day, not to mention the price is $17.50 for 3D ULTRA AVX, so I was expecting the theater to be less than half full. I got there 20 minutes before showtime and there were exactly 12 seats left, all in the first 2 rows (AVX is reserved seating so you can see exactly what seats are left). I opted to see the 5:20 instead and even that was 60% full over 2 1/2 hours before start time. As I exited I could see the next showing was sold out already. The crowd seemed to like it, not hugely enthusiastic but overall a good reaction, especially during some of the stylized fight scenes. It was better than I was expecting. Rourke makes a good villain, maybe just a tad over the top. I know it's a holiday but the theater was just buzzing, Puss In Boots was selling out a lot of showings on both its screens (1 3D and 1 2D), other movies seemed busy but I didn't see any posted sell outs.
  14. The Help I hadn't seen it in a while and I've seen pretty much everything worth seeing that's still playing so I decided to see it one more time on discount Tuesday. 53 people in the small 110 seat theater, pretty decent sized crowd considering how long it has been out. Trailers Breaking Dawn Warhorse The Odd Life of Timothy Green The crowd acted as expected, lots of laughs with anything "pie" related, more than a few sniffles during the movie and at the end. It has had a solid boxoffice run, a shame it looks like it will fall just short of Bridesmaids for the #10 spot for the year (up until this point)
