  1. I'm actually liking this show, but the rescue the brother storyline has played itself out. When they focus on something else it's pretty good, but every time they go back to the rescue the show gets bogged down. The acting has improved a bit from the pilot, the sister was absolutely terrible in that episode but she was much better this week, but the brother is still terrible, I wouldn't mind seeing him killed off to move things past the rescue and give a new motive to the main characters. The next couple of episodes will be the make or break ones for this series.
  2. I have to admit I've never seen an episode of iCarly, but given who is doing a guest appearance next episode I'll have to watch.Emma Stone will be guest starring! It turns out Emma is a huge fan of the show and met the cast at an SNL after-party and said she'd love to be on the show and they said "how about next week?" and Emma jumped at the chance. The episode airs Oct. 20 and a promo spot is already out:http://youtu.be/_MIGbdtTbDs
  3. I'd kept myself in the dark about this season, including casting, so seeing Yvonne was a very pleasant surprise. After seeing her I couldn't resist checking to see if that was a one off or if she was going to be a big part of this season, and she is in 10 episodes.
  4. There are actually a couple of theaters near me doing this now. They have 1 screen designated as V.I.P. and you have to be 19 or older regardless of what movie is playing. They really upscale those theaters, bigger screen and when they made the switch they took out the 350 seats and replaced them with 119 extra large and padded leather recliners and it has in theater restaurant service right up until the movie starts. It's pricey though, $19.50 for 2D movies as opposed to $12.50 on the regular screens.
  5. Truly a depressing OW number.I saw this today, and if I didn't follow boxoffice reports I'd have guessed from the crowd at my showing this would open to 25+ mil. 300 seat theater had close to 280 people for the 2:45 show, latecomers were getting stuck sitting in the front rows.I almost didn't see this, but, in a rare turn of events the reviews and crowd reports changed my mind. 95% of the time if I've decided to see a movie or pass on it the reviews have little effect on my decision. I suppose I still had bad memories of that god awful Stalone version, but this was absolutely nothing like that. I loved it, first really enjoyable movie I've seen in months, and the crowd I was in seemed equally entertained. This movie deserved a fate far better than it received.
  6. I'm not at all surprised about Oogieloves dismal performance. Virtually every successful movie aimed at kids has at least some small appeal for adults, after all they are the ones buying tickets. I couldn't imagine trying to sit through this, it looks like it should be straight to DVD, something you can pop in for the kids to watch while you putter around in the next room.
  7. It doesn't even need close to a 50% increase for 1 billion. TASM should easily pass 750 mil WW now so for TASM2 to hit 1 billion it will need an increase of just 33%, maybe even a few points less, depending on the final number for TASM.
  8. Lordy but this week and the foreseeable future just looks so incredibly boring. Even the threads where the loony supporters and irrational haters are pretty much quiet. Sigh, at least 2 more weeks of dullness before we might see some interesting boxoffice numbers.
  9. Paranorman (2D)The trailers looked interesting so I decided to give it a chance. I saw the 12:55 show since it was on only 1 screen and only the first show was in 2D.TrailersLes Miserables- Umm, kind of an odd choice to put in front of a kids movie, pretty much 0 reaction.Hotel Transylvania- Kids were all over this one, lots of reaction and talking.Wreck It Ralph- Even better reaction from the kids (I want to see it myself)Theater has about 250 seats, about 90% sold out, but it was helped out by a large group of about 50 kids seeing it as part of a birthday party. The crowd really seemed to like it, which kind of surprised me as I thought it might play a bit over their age group, it has some pretty dark themes to go with some really good humor, but the kids did like it. I think the parents like it too judging by the chatter after the movie ended. My take on it was that I was really pleasantly surprised, it was even better than I thought it would be, I'm still mulling over how I'd rate it but I'm leaning toward 8.5 or 9 out of 10.
  10. I was about to say TR isn't that bad, but then a line from Ted popped into my head... "The fact you have to say it's not that bad means it is that bad".
  11. I haven't been keeping track this year, I actually had to go to BOM and check what has been released and check off what I've seen (which is why my list is in boxoffice order rather than the order that I've seen them). The Avengers***The Hunger Games***The Dark Knight RisesThe Amazing Spider-Man***BraveThe LoraxTed***MIB 3Snow White and the Huntsman21 Jump StreetSafe HousePrometheus***The VowWrath of the TitansDark ShadowsJohn CarterContrabandBattleshipChronicle***Underworld AwakeningThe DictatorAmerican Reunion***This Means WarGhost Rider: Spirit of VengeanceThe Cabin In The WoodsThe Five-Year EngagementHaywireWanderlustSafeGoneSeeking a Friend for the End of the WorldGoonThe Raid: RedemptionShameCoriolanusSo 35 different movies.*** = multiple viewings
  12. Yup, it looks like it might inch its way up to 407 mil. The numbers may be small now but it just keeps going and going.
  13. Ok, tonight's opening scene has to be the 2nd most bizarre opening scene in the series, 2nd only to the episode where everyone was slithering on their bellies in the dirt.
  14. Looking at Sunday showings here in Vancouver there is exactly 1 sell out so far (an IMAX) in 9 theaters accounting for 123 showings.
  15. Good solid weekday numbers so far, at this rate it should be 233-235 mil after this weekend.
  16. Lots of milestones reached this weekend...TASM and Mad3 pas 200 milTed and SWATH pass 150 milBrave set up to pass 200 mil by next weekendMM looks like it has locked 100 mil now.
  17. It's just starting to get better here. Right after Avatar whenever a new 3D movie came out here there was virtually no 2D option. I actually passed on seeing several movies I was on the fence about seeing because of that. In the last few months the theaters have been much better, nearly every 3D movie now has a 2D option if it's playing on more than 1 screen. The biggest remaining problem is that when these movies start losing screens in their runs is that 2D is always the first to go, which seems counter to demand as later in the run less people want to spend extra for 3D, but even that is starting to get better now, The Avengers is down to 1 screen in most local theaters, but they all pretty much have the first show of the day as 2D and the 3 later showings in 3D so you still have options. Even a few months ago that wasn't the case.
  18. I'm starting to wonder if "Lilith" is still alive (or undead) and will be making an appearance?I'm also curious about the Tina Majorino character, Molly, usually when they bring in known actors for what seems a bit part it turns out to be something more.
  19. Not always... (Lasiodora parahybana Mello-Leitao 1917, female, eating a bat, ne. Brazil)
  20. Wow, barely 5 minutes into the season premiere and I'm already sucked right in.
  21. Actually, the hooker expenses are probably relatively low, what with the casting couches and endless streams of nubile young starlet wannabes.
  22. Ender's Game is one of my all time favorite books (maybe even as high as #2 after Tailchaser's Song by Tad Williams) , so I am a fan, but I never really got into any of his other books much. Some of them were good, but just don't measure up anywhere near EG.As for OSC personally, I've heard whispers about his beliefs but I never really follow authors past their writing so I don't really have any opinion of him as a person.
  23. This reminds me of when Howard Stern was at it's peak and they were discussing fans and haters of the show, it went something like"Guy 1- Fans of the show listened to it for an average of 2 hoursGuy 2- and how long did people who despise Howard Stern listen?Guy 1- 3 hours"It seems people who really dislike something take far more interest in it than people who really like it, which just seems weird to me since if I actively dislike a movie I might glance at numbers and a few comments to see what the general opinion is, but I don't make countless post of "it's a bomb" or "legs are weak", etc.
