  1. THG was fun to watch, huge explosive opening followed by truly unexpected legs, but the most fun I has watching a boxoffice run was when I was tracking The Help in comparison to Bridesmaids. The way their runs ran so closely from their opening weekend then just about exactly matched week to week for their entire runs was unreal. Their opening weekends were only 200k apart and they stayed amazingly close week to week with both finishing over 169 mil and less than 600k apart and both had better than 6x multipliers from opening weekend. Never seen 2 movies in the same year have such nearly identical runs, especially movies with such large grosses.
  2. Amanda SeyfriedCorrect pronunciation is "sigh-frid" , but I've heard it as "see-freed", "say-freed", "see-fride", etc.As mentioned, Saoirse Ronan is probably the toughest one, looking at the way it's spelled I would never have guessed the right pronunciation.
  3. I've always liked Perlman, not a lot of range as an actor but he's good at what he does. It's so nice to hear something positive about an actor for a change, he seems like a great guy. Ron Perlman revistis Hellboy for ,Make-a-wish http://www.geekscape.net/ron-perlman-back-as-hellboy-for-a-truly-touching-reason In the past three weeks, Spectral Motion has been honored to host two wonderful Make-A-Wish children, Caleb and Zachary. Zachary loved his visit for two very special reasons. It was Zachary’s wish to meet Hellboy and also to become Hellboy. When the Make-A-Wish Foundation contacted Spectral Motion with this request, Mike thought it would be fantastic to have Ron Perlman reprise his role for the day. Ron loved the idea and donned the makeup once more (with the assistance of Lufeng Qu and Eden Elizalde) and also ordered a Hellboy sized meal of burgers, shakes, and fries for Zachary and his family and the entire Spectral crew to enjoy. Later in the day, Zachary was transformed into Hellboy with the assistance of makeup artists Lufeng Qu and Neil Winn. Both of the Make-A-Wish days were a complete thrill for the families of the children, as well as for the crew at Spectral Motion!
  4. Now that I think about it, Ted may gain some of the screens. I think it caught theater owners by surprise, I don't think one single multiplex near me has it on more than 1 screen and when I was at the theater on Monday (for TASM) and Tuesday (for Ted) the lineups were freaking huge and it was selling out every showing.
  5. Wow. So what is getting all those screens being freed up? A quick glance at that list shows well over 11,000 screens from those movies but the 2 new wide releases only total around 5,300. That still leaves about 6,000 screens unaccounted for and the new limited releases will barely make a dent in that number.
  6. Estimates pretty much nailed Ted and MM, but Madea was overestimated by a million.
  7. Wow, that MM drop is...wow.I guess the ladies ran out of $1 bills after Friday.
  8. I caught 2 movies this weekend Brave Saturday 12:15 showing in 3D. Ticket price 500 Scene points (this is new, first show of the day is 500 points, after that it's 1000 points. I like that it cost the same points for 2D,3D and Ultra AVX). A bit more than half full, 150 people or so. Trailers- I got there in time to see the last trailer, Monsters University- Looks very good, crowd loved it. The movie- The crowd liked it and seemed entertained, there were a few kids who laughed a lot, almost too much. As it ended I didn't hear any negative comments, mostly mildly positive chatter. My take is it was good fun, but not very memorable. A day later there aren't many moments that stuck with me. I give it a respectable 7.5/10, good entertainment but not a classic. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Seeking a friend for the end of the world Sunday 12:20 show. Ticket cost $9.75 (different theater, they don't have the 500 scene point first show). Only about 2 dozen people. Trailers- There were 4 but only 2 made enough of an impression to recall The perks of being a wallflower- Actually seems decent. I never really cared one way or the other for Emma Watson but she looked pretty good in this. Ruby Sparks- This I might actually see in the theater, assuming it plays here. It just screams limited release but it looks quite good. The movie- As I said, there were only about 2 dozen people but there was some audible laughter in a few spots. I can't say exactly why, but I really liked this movie, probably out of proportion to its actual quality. On paper Carell and Knightley make an odd match, but they somehow work, which is a minor miracle since I generally find Knightley kind of unlikeable. I give it 8/10, but I don't think most people will like it as much as I did.
  9. THG is just 722k away from passing Spider-Man for #12 Domestic.
  10. Take away the ridiculous title and gimmicky premise and it looks like a fairly decent action/horror movie. I'm actually thinking of catching a matinee tomorrow, in 2D.
  11. They do expand on vampire relations when Jessica refers to Bill as her dad- "My dad's the King"
  12. In this case "sister" means vampire sister, as in they were both sired by Godric, no blood relation.
  13. Have any of the AP movies even been released in Japan? Looking at BOM I can't find any Japan grosses for the first 3.
  14. Barely minutes into the season premiere and already there's a huge twist with a main character I never would have guessed was coming.
  15. I don't know why, but it makes me smile seeing Kristen wearing sneakers on the stage.
  16. A cute roast, and I loved that they got Jim Carrey in the mix. That was such a great acceptance speech by Emma, pure class all the way.
  17. There you go, Potter did win something, Best Cast.
  18. Emma's Trailblazer Award is next. I've heard it's kind of a roast style presentation."Emma Stone will receive the first-ever MTV Trailblazer award with a good old roasting from the likes of Octavia Spencer, Jim Carrey, Mila Kunis and Jason Sudeikis."
  19. Man, those 2 presenters look rough, like a couple of 70 yr. old women after way too much cosmetic surgery.Too funny, all those clips from Johnny Depp movies and not 1 from my personal favorite Depp movie, The Ninth Gate.
  20. Ugh, Pattinson and Stewart again. Really, they were only the 3rd best of the nominees, but no surprise they won again.
  21. Sure these aren't "prestigious" awards, they are basically voted for by teenage girls for the most part so you can usually guess the winners if you can think like a teenage girl. You know it will be a Twilight and Hunger Games domination.Still, it's nice to see some of my favorites all dressed up. Emma Stone is clearly loved by awards shows, she has a couple of nominations to go with that Trailblazer award, and she won the Hot and Funny award at the Guy's Choice awards last night.I would really like Emma Stone and Ryan Gosling to take best kiss, it's way better than anything the perennial winners from Twilight have ever done.
  22. It does if they are just reporting in millions. 6.3 = 538.763 For Thursday they reported 2.8 (532) but the real number was 2.774 = 532.463
  23. Over 4.5x it's budget WW is pretty solid, and if DVD/Blue Ray sales are even remotely close to the first 3 it should be financially solid to make a 5th.As long as they keep the budget under control, let's say under 60 mil this franchise still has some life left.
