Starship Troopers (1997)
luna replied to K1stpierre's topic in Review That Movie! (Spoilers Allowed)
the first half is full of over-the-top satire, but it loses its way with a long series of mindless action scenes, presumably to satisfy the 'entertainment' requirement of hollywood. 5/10 -

i was fighting off the whimsy for much of the first half, but eventually i came to enjoy this tale of a slightly awkward post-college woman undergoing a minor life crisis. i felt heavy shades of francois truffaut, woody allen and the mumblecore scene while watching. the ending was touching but also rather contrived, cloying and out of step with the rest of the film. 6/10

Walt Disney is one of the greatest boxoffice.com forum posters of all-time.

i've only seen films by the dardennes (l'enfant & le fils), xavier dolan (je tué me mere), abderrahmane sissako (bamako) and nuri bilge ceylan (bir zamanlar anadolu'da). outside of those people, i've only heard of bertrand bonello, andrey zvyagintsev and tua fraser. dead lands could have had a chance, being the first feature film entire in maori ever made, but it seems to be getting reasonable poor reviews.

whatever, i just looked at box office mojo! :'( i'm not all clued up on these nasty mainstream people

for some reason i didn't see national lampoon or stripes that he made before ghostbusters, so that cancels that one.

utterly ridiculous, but the visuals are so intense and indulgent that it is also supremely exciting to look at. 6.8/10
