  1. Amazing that in a year of huge family disappointments Alvin still manages to meet expectations. 10m, that's big. I sort of called it for Sherlock. I wasn't feeling it at all. That's huge for MI4, weak for Young Adult.
  2. Was it really boosted by six minutes of movie? The prologue was playing at 70 out of 425 theaters. At that point I feel like many who were desperate to see the prologue caught a preview show earlier this week.
  3. A comparison: MI3 made 1.1m in midnights from 2000 sites. SH1 didn't have many midnight shows because it opened Christmas Day.
  4. Go, MI4, go! That's not a great number for Holmes, is it? Avatar and Tron did 3.5m apiece.
  5. Good: 50/50 hasn't received much recognition so far, so Picture and Actor nods make me very happy. Gleeson for The Guard is a great choice, so is Kristen Wiig over McCarthy. Game of Thrones, good. Mara, nice. Unless Extremely Loud didn't screen in time, it completely got shut out here, which might be a plus.Bad: The Artist becomes the early frontrunner of the race, meaning the Weinsteins are getting themselves another Oscar trophy. TV Comedy section is a joke (no pun intended). Gosling gets two acting nominations and neither are for the right movie. No Tree of Life, no Tinker Tailor, no Speilberg for director, no Oswalt, no MUPPETS DOESN'T GET A BEST SONG NOMINATION. BUT MADONNA DOES.Overall, not as bad as last year!
  6. For the last damn time, Rotten Tomatoes only tells you how many people liked a movie and didn't like a movie. If you don't look at the average score, it tells you nothing beyond that. Metacritic is always the most reliable source. Muppets has a 98% on Rotten Tomatoes. Is it the most acclaimed movie of the year? Not by a longshot.
  7. I liked Bridesmaids a lot, but McCarthy getting Supporting Actress nods makes about as much sense as Zach Galifianakis getting Oscar attention for The Hangover. Wiig gave a nearly awards-worthy performance, McCarthy was just funny and silly. These nods are very disappointing. The Artist is winning Best Picture. I haven't seen it, I will see it, yet I don't even have the desire to. When are bodies of voters ever going to give original opinions as to what they like the best?
  8. I have a spot in my heart for Darren Criss, but I agree, Santana's the last compelling character left on the show. She deserves it more than Lynch/Colfer/Morrison/Michelle/anyone else on this stupid show.
  9. It's both. The box office is fluctuating more as of late, but people are growing sicker of seeing the same old garbage. New Year's Eve opening to a measly 13 million is the biggest slap in the face I can think of to the Hollywood machine.
  10. Haven't seen Eclipse, won't see Eclipse, can't judge. The rest of these are stinkers, except SS and DOTM are just boring and mediocre. TF2 is my safe choice, but Phantom Menace and Spiderman 3 were really bad...
  11. I'm not liking this season at all. The writing's really been lazy.
  12. You'll never hear me give a ringing endorsement for a 3D movie. Except Hugo. Go in 3D, at all costs.
  13. They gave DH2 and The Artist special awards because they couldn't put them in the list, that's why.Descendants, Hugo, Dragon Tattoo, Help, Moneyball, War Horse, Tree of Life, Artist, Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close, and Midnight in Paris. If the race were ten, it would be these, with DH2 and Drive as spoilers. But with 5 to 10 let's see what actually has enough support to get a slot.
  14. Last year's winners- Black SwanThe FighterInceptionThe Kids are All Right127 HoursThe Social NetworkThe TownToy Story 3True GritWinter's BoneSwap The Town with The King's Speech (which was ineligible) and that's last year's top 10. But then again, 2009's was Coraline, Hangover, Hurt Locker, Messenger, Precious, A Serious Man, A Single Man, Sugar, Up and Up in the Air (5 for 10)...
  15. Looks like the only thing out of the critics race is that Brooks is the frontrunner for Supporting Actor. Which I'm more than okay with.
  16. Excellent for Tinker Taylor. In terms of PTA averages that blows everything since last year's The Fighter out of the water. Hopefully Focus knows what its doing in terms of its expansions. I don't think this weekend's awfulness can be understated. Unadjusted for inflation, this is the worst second weekend of December in 13+ years.
  17. 5m OD for NYE is a 13.5m OW. And it'll still win the weekend. Bahahahahaha.
  18. Fox should have opened We Bought a Zoo this weekend. The Sitter could have opened to nothing at any time of the year. This is a movie that will supposedly have great WOM and needs some going into the holidays if it wants to compete with the big movies. I'm sure a lot of people will complain that studios should have put so and so movie this weekend, but Zoo makes the most sense to me.
  19. I see 65 for Sherlock, 35 for Alvin, and 8 for MI4 (20k average). None will have especially huge starts, but should play huge over the next two weeks.
  20. Really poor for NYE. I guess people learned their lesson after the travesty of Valentine's Day (and apparently this is worse).BD1 continues to hold better than NM. Definitely stands a chance at beating NM/DH1's totals now.Muppets/Hugo/Arthur thankfully don't drop much at all. Otherwise, jesus, people better be saving their money for Sherlock or MI4 or something. The box office is DEAD.
  21. The best single film to come out of the Potter canon. Some scenes here were so hauntingly beautiful.
  22. Better than the second, not as good as the first... pretty much what I expected.
  23. http://www.nbc.com/community/video/troy-and-abed-rap-christmas-infiltration/1372231YES
  24. A terrible movie. An absolute waste of time. And yet I'll be back for the third, somehow...
