  1. The Muppets finally opens tomorrow (March 21)! And of course there are a lot of The Hunger Games advance screenings tomorrow as well.Regular showing on March 22
  2. Too bad Friends with Kids flopped on expansion.I suspect the lower than expected CinemaScore for 21JS was deflated by fans of the original show
  3. Got me counting. Watched 18 movies so far this year, 3 local ones, 7 through press screenings, 9 2011 movies (mostly the Oscar movies) and wow the 1st quarter ain't over yet
  4. Official weekend estimate: $13.5 million for 'John Carter' from 3,749 locations. Location avg. = $3,605.Official weekend estimate: $840,000 for 'Jeff Who Lives at Home' from 254 locations. Location avg. = $3,307.Official weekend estimate: $35.0 million for '21 Jump Street' from 3,121 locations. Location avg. = $11,214.https://twitter.com/#!/Boxoffice
  5. Official weekend estimate: $22.8 million for 'The Lorax' from 3,769 locations. Location avg. = $6,055.https://twitter.com/#!/Boxoffice
  6. Act of Valor's box office performance is impressive, can it make it to 70 million?
  7. I think so although for sure THG will occupy a lot of screens but I think theaters will still allocate screens for Mirror, Mirror and Lorax. Maybe John Carter too
  8. On the contrary, I rarely see screenings with less than 6 trailers here in the Philippines. And in some cinemas we don't have just trailers we also have commercials and public service announcements attached. Ever since I was a child I remember that it has always been this way so I'm actually quite surprised that this isn't the case elsewhere in the world
  9. Some of those movies have the same local distributor of The Lorax and usually all upcoming movies by a local distributor are attached to a movie they have out regardless of genre or appropriateness
  10. We always have lots of trailers for most screenings here in the Philippines
  11. Hopefully 21 Jump Street cross 35 mil - 40 mil range. Too bad for John Carter now that I've seen it, I feel sad it's flopping
  12. Watched John Carter last night, I liked it and the cinema I was in was actually 100% full! The Hunger Games is going to be huge, lots of advance screenings happening as well! Poor The Muppets it's finally opening here but it's up against THG! I think I'll see The Muppets first to support it!
  13. John Carter 7:45 PM, March 16, 2012 Glorietta Cinema 2 [2D screen] 100% full (400-500 seats) Trailers: Battleship - Heard some people say "looks good" and some laughs when Rihanna scenes were shown ATM - some "WTF" reactions from the crowd The Hunger Games - some murmurs Resident Evil 4 - The first part of this trailer/teaser looked like a commercial so when Mila Jovovich appeared some people were surprised to learn that this is for the movie The Amazing Spider-man - Some talks, heard a guy asking his date "we will watch this right?" Men in Black 3 - laughs with Josh Brolin scenes The Avengers - Lots of chatter The movie: I came in with low expectations actually after all the things that have been said and I guess it helped because I was pleasantly entertained by this film. It has pacing issues but overall it was a good film. The first part was boring and I actually didn't fully understand what was going on until the Barsoom scenes. The crowd responded well especially with the "Virginia!" scenes and I think most of the audience like me are not familiar with the source material as I heard "Ah that makes sense!", "Ah that's why" on the last part of the movie. And as the movie ended heard some chatter wondering if there will be a Part 2 given how it ended. Too bad it likely won't happen at all. B
  14. When Cars 2 disappointed commercially and most importantly critically, I knew it would open the floodgates for criticizing (rational or not) Pixar. It was bound to happen at some point. I didn't like Cars 2 as well though and as a fan of the studio it also left me nervous for Brave but let's wait and see. I think it looks good and promising. I think in a way it's a good thing that some people are already lukewarm early on with Brave so as not to raise the expectations way too much. I love Pixar but some fans do tend to get overboard with the love.
  15. Can Safe House catch up with The Vow? It's closing in the gap

  19. Not after credits, during the credits. I'm not sure if it setting up for a sequel since I had to go and didn't finish it. It was just a cutesy cast performance
  20. Mirror, Mirror March 14, 2012, Powerplant Mall, Makati City, Philippines Press Screening, 8 pm 95% full (300-400 seats) missed the trailers The movie: It's campy but very entertaining as long as you don't take it too seriously. The dwarfs are funny. Julia Roberts' accent is a little distracting but well she's really charismatic. Lily Collins and Armie Hammer didn't have that much chemistry. but they were good individually in their roles. There are some changes in the story which I think is good. The crowd was laughing out loud. And oh stay until the credits roll. B
  21. Pretty good numbers for the top 3
