  1. The Japanese trailer was good! I love the score, it heightens the threat and excitement! Too bad I have to wait for August for this movie to come out here
  2. Amazing! The Artist went down to #11, did it ever reach the top 10 at some point?
  3. I agree. The live action adaptation was so atrocious
  4. Cars 2 was visually appealing, kids especially the young boys loved that one. And let's not forget that despite missing 200 mil, it was still the highest animated film last year with 190+ mil. The bad reviews just hurt its legs. KFP 2's domestic performance is still puzzling me to this day. I loved Rango but I think it looks to creepy for young kids. The Lorax really had great marketing plus a perfect playdate with no direct competition. Last year there were Gnomeo & Juliet, Rango, Mars Needs Moms, Hop & Rio released closely to each other
  5. Let's not neglect Project X, it did solid as well, not spectacular of course but given the low budget, it will earn enough for the studio
  6. Can't they make The Lorax 2? (not familiar with the source material)
  7. Somewhere out there the Happy Feet 2 guys are weeping seeing this Lorax numbers
  8. Well for what is worth it's an "unexpected publicity" for John Carter, that news item was featured in TV Patrol so yeah haha
  9. I'm rooting for John Carter but I'm not confident as well that it will do well in the box office but I'm hoping it will beat the odds.
  10. Just read this that there's some controversy about Taylor Kitsch and the Philippines customs, here's the full storyI don't think the issue is that big though but I do wonder what effect will it have for John Carter's box office performance next week
  11. To think December box office was sad (The Muppets crashing on its second week, New Year's Eve flopping, Sherlock Holmes 2 & Alvin 3 came in below expectations, No Oscar movies broke out, the only good news was Mission Impossible) so the sudden box office uptick in January was very surprising and just as we thought the first week was a fluke then came in another week and another week of surprise box office performer/s. And you know what I don't want try to understand why I'm just happy it's happening because last year box office run was just disappointing overall that at least this year we're off to a good start, we already reached the quota of box office disappointments last year
  12. Last year was around 37 million, the record low (at least when they start recording the ratings) was the year No Country for Old Men won. This year's slate of BP nominees only had The Help as the box office hit compared to last year when they had Inception and Toy Story 3 as nominees plus surprise 100 million hits with The King's Speech and Black Swan. Even The Social Network came close with 97 mil.
  13. Yeah a silent film will always be in tough sell in this day and age, I was surprised the Oscar ratings did well this year I thought it will be lower with the type of film leading the pack
  14. Go The Lorax! Too bad the movie is coming here not until March 14, can't wait to see it
  15. Saw My Week with Marily and War Horse this week. War Horse was beautiful, too bad only around 40 people were watching last night at SM Mall of Asia
  16. Last year the "Oscar movies" have appealing leads: Colin Firth, Natalie Portman, Christian Bale. This year the big winners The Artist and Hugo have unknown leads and concepts that are not that appealing to mainstream audiences. Although last year''s Black Swan success really surprised given the type of film it is
