  1. I discovered Nikki's site a few years ago when I was following the NBC-Jay Leno show debacle and I always find her write ups so engaging to read as if it feels like she's shouting right in front of me Then I discovered how awesome her website with all those development news both on TV and Movies. But she's so bias but in a fun way
  2. I won't deny though that I'm still holding out of hope it will have legs this April since there's no major competition haha but oh well I'm okay with it disappointing, just glad it was re-issued so I was able to see it on the big screen for the first time
  3. Lion King 3D was for me the biggest box office surprise of 2011.
  4. The Lion King 3D was just a different situation and nobody really expected it to be that big. I admit I'm bit disappointed with Titanic 3D's number but well since Beauty and the Beast and Star Wars didn't do that well, I already had low expectations.
  5. Only experienced MOA, I like it but my complain is that it doesn't have that much leg room.Clash of the Titans opened with 47 million pesos two years ago and finished with 211 million pesos ($4.7 million). Let's see if Wrath can reach that level. But I think it will struggle

  7. Good start for Titanic 3D.Our biggest movie here in the Philippines so far this 2012 is a local romcom which is not unusual during the 1st quarter (February = Valentines Month = local romcom hit) The biggest Hollywood movie now is The Hunger Games but before that it was Underworld Awakening

  10. Titanic 3D Press Screening April 3, 2012, 6 PM Glorietta, Makati City, Philippines 100% full (500 seats) - saw lots of kids in the audience Trailers Dark Shadows - Some laughs Ice Age 4 - Some laughs The movie This is my first time to see this movie in the big screen and I enjoyed it a lot. 3D effect is fine especially the underwater scenes but to be honest it doesn't really add that much because the movie is engrossing enough. The audience started a little chatty in the beginning but as the movie progresses we were all sucked in again to Titanic's magic especially when the ship started sinking everyone was quiet even the inquisitive kid near me. The Rose sketching session had the best reaction And there were claps in the end and lots of good chatter as I exit the theater and i even heard some singing along with My Heart Will Go On. I don't think it will make that much money here since all previous 3D rereleases here flopped but it's a movie worth revisiting and I'm glad that I had the chance to see this movie in the theater, it really is a movie meant to be seen in the big screen
  11. ^ I was not aware BOM have that stat. I;m so geeked out today lol. I'm actually watching Titanic 3D press screening later so I'm excited
  12. Wow thank you! I didn't know that I don't remember the exchange rate that time though but let's say it was around 35 PHP so the Philippine gross is around 170 million pesos which is very big because that time movie tickets were very cheap (20-40 pesos).

  14. Too bad we don't have records how much Titanic earned. Actually until Box Office Mojo included the Philippines in their coverage in 2007 we don't have a clue how much movies earn here, we just have to rely on press releases by studios and of course they only do that for the blockbuster hits
  15. Surprisingly for a 3rd world country like us, the box office has been good for the big Hollywood flicks and we have one breakout local hit so far. Maybe it's just the ticket prices driving up the gross lol. Anyway, movies don't last that long here anymore, the longest is 5 weeks. So movies earn most of their income during the opening week, not much room for legs. When I was a kid though Titanic ran for 6 months
  16. Our local movie industry was actually quite strong before and we used to produce like 100 films a year but it dwindled over time as ticket prices goes up and piracy became rampant. Plus lack of quality material. Our mainstream movies ranges from awful to above average, usually popcorn flicks with a happy ending. But once in a while a brilliant film comes along and there are lot of good independent movies but they always have a hard time crossing over to commercial theaters. But our production aspect is really poor mainly because post production are most of the time not done yet even if the movie is opening just a couple of days away. How are your ticket prices there? Here the price ranges from 100-200 pesos (roughly $2-$5) for 2D flicks and 250-300 pesos ($5-$7) for 3D and 400-500 pesos ($8-$12) for IMAX

It went back to theaters on Jan. 8 and the only foreign movie holdover from 2011 *** At least The Muppets beat Breaking Wind but still so sad I think John Carter can crawl to 2 million but definitely won't be beating Underworld:Awakening. Let's see how soon can The Hunger Games catch up with UnOfficially Yours, they need a strong second week but Wrath of the Titans has IMAX and 3D so it will likely earn more
  18. ^ Wow that Zon Lusomondo is indeed big, three major studios! How about your local Portuguese movies, do you have a lot of local movies released there? Here there are 4 major local studios but the biggest one is Star Cinema which usually has the top local movie every single year since the 2000s (usually RomCom). And we usually have one or two local movies released per month. Romance is the biggest genre here followed by horror and comedy. Well we have a lot of independent movies (digital films) though but they are either art house flicks (film festivals bound) or soft core porn Our major cinema houses are inside malls, we used to have a lot of standalone theaters/multiplexes but they died over time (there are still some that exists but you seriously don't want to go there anymore since a lot of nasty stuff happens there
  19. By the way here our distributors:Warner Bros. Philippines (they also distribute 20th Century Fox movies)Solar UIP (Universal, Paramount, Dreamworks Animation)Columbia (Sony and Disney/Dreamworks)Pioneer & Viva International (Lionsgate, Relativity, Summit, foreign flicks (usually Asian horror movies) and other smaller studios
  20. The Five Year Engagement is set for a June 27 release :(Anonymous was originally for March but got moved, it's just a limited release (2-3 screens) and I'm sure it would flop here as well and maybe BOM won't have numbers for it like My Week with Marilyn. Machine Gun Preacher was originally set last year but it never materialized. Well their distributor don't market their movies well (the movies on the bottom of the list of the yearly box office are all from them haha) but they got Twilight and now The Hunger Games so they're lucky
