  1. The Hobbit: BOTFA will now earn less than DOS!
  2. ‘American Sniper’ Breaks Miley Cyrus’ Super Bowl Record at Box Office http://www.thewrap.com/american-sniper-breaks-miley-cyrus-super-bowl-record-at-box-office/ Iraq War saga wins 3rd straight weekend with $31.8 million and routs “Project Almanac,” Kevin Costner’s “Black or White” and “The Loft” “American Sniper” added best Super Bowl weekend ever to the list of box-office records Sunday, claiming its third consecutive weekend win with an estimated $31.8 million. To do it, the Iraq War saga had to outscore “Hannah Montana/Miley Cyrus: Best of Both Worlds Concert Tour,” which rung up $31.1 million for Disney in 2008. It’s the latest in a series of records that have fallen to the Clint Eastwood-directed drama starring Bradley Cooper since it began a box-office blitz that began that day after it earned six Oscar nominations, including Best Picture and Actor. The weekend’s three wide openers all finished behind “Paddington,” the family comedy about the British bear from “Harry Potter” producer David Heyman. It was second with $8.7 million in its third week for the Weinstein Company. The time-travel tale “Project Almanac” followed with a disappointing $8.3 million from 2,893 theaters in its debut for Paramount Pictures. “Black or White,” the race relations drama produced and starring Kevin Costner, opened in third with $6.4 million from 1,823 theaters for Relativity Studios. And the thriller “The Loft” wound up tenth, taking in $2.7 million from 1841 theaters for Open Road Films. After posting the best wide opening ever on Martin Luther King holiday weekend and the month of January, “Ameican Sniper” will have rolled up nearly $250 million domestically in 17 days. It’s already passed “Saving Private Ryan” as the highest-grossing war movie ever, and it will be the top R-rated movie ever if it can pass the $370.7 million domestic total that Mel Gibson’s “Passion of the Christ” rung up in 2004.

  5. Yup, I think Weinstein was hoping that like King's Speech, Imitation Game would upset the early frontrunner in the Guild awards and yes Boyhood lost the first two major guilds (PGA and SAG) but not to IG but to Birdman. Well I think IG can win Adapted Screenplay but that won't give a significant box office boost
  6. Gitesh Pandya ‏@giteshpandya Fumble of the day - so far - goes to #Blackhat which plunged 93% to puny $114k over #SuperBowl wknd. Dismal $7.8M to date.
  7. Can't relate with the soccer/football talk. Not popular here in the Philippines. We are a basketball/boxing/beauty pageants country
  8. Yeah, can't see how it will get to 100M now despite Harvey Weinstein's confidence it will reach that mark. It did earn well though but it's no King Speech
  9. Nice sat for AS I hope the mods can edit the title since we have Sat numbers already
  10. Umm they bother because their product will be exposed to 100 million viewers?
  11. Without Sniper, there's still Taken 3, Wedding Ringer and Paddington to serve as January's saving grace for all the flops
  12. The last two weekends of February look really weak! Focus' trailer didn't grab me, don't get the tone, is it serious or playful? Will watch for Margot Robbie though
  13. Harvey Weinstein is confident on an interview with Deadline that it will cross 100M before the Oscar awards
  14. AS is doing really well! Paddington is doing nicely as well
  15. Project Almanac and Black & White are close to each other despite B&W in a thousand less theaters, bad for PA
  16. They really should pursue it, given the popularity and it's already cinematic as it is. The potential next big movie franchise
  17. After Julianne wins the Oscar it should expand to more than that
  18. Saw Boy Next Door, well it is the kind of the movie you expect it to be but it's campy and sexy though, the sex scene is quite steamy I must say
  19. I feel really bad for DWA, especially the laid off workers.
  20. And the reason why JLo's Boy Next Door only cost $4M http://deadline.com/2015/01/jennifer-lopez-johnny-depp-boy-next-door-mortdecai-box-office-1201358275/ Lopez was looking to do a Fatal Attraction-type popcorn thriller reminiscent of those in the 1980s and ’90s. She and producer Elaine Goldsmith-Thomas, who was behind the actress’ 2002 film Maid In Manhattan and her TV movie doc Jennifer Lopez: Dance Again, received a call from Blumhouse who was looking for the right lead for the Barbara Curry script. Said Goldsmith-Thomas: “We loved the idea of investing in ourselves and taking no money upfront. Our attitude was, ‘Let’s put on a show.’ We all literally shared Jennifer’s trailer. We rehearsed at her house and she pulled costumes out of her closet. All the money was up on the screen and the idea of becoming a participant was the idea we embraced. We shot the film in 23 days.” At the PGA Awards last night, Jason Blum gave props to Lopez’s CAA agent Kevin Huvane for pointing her in Blumhouse’s direction. “I’m grateful to her for trying our (production) system,” said Blum.
  21. I read an interview with Harvey Weinstein on Deadline and he is confident that The Imitation Game will cross 100M before the Oscar awards. He also explained why he handled Snowpiercer that way http://deadline.com/2015/01/harvey-weinstein-the-imitation-game-oscar-bad-mouthing-sony-hack-quentin-tarantino-1201358304/
