wow at Quartet! It's doing well for a limited release with no Oscar buzz at all
-
Identity Thief continues to do well
-
I'm just glad that there's a race this year unlike the past years where this category is very predictable
-
WOW at Escape from Planet Earth! Imagine if Weinstein allotted a portion of their Oscar campaigning budget to push this movie, it could have earned even more. Anyway, it was really weird that no major studio slotted any family film this month. Last year we had Journey 2 for the family audience.

Safe Haven's budget is just $28 million, will definitely be profitable. Escape From Planet Earth's budget of $40 million is also low and it would likely be profitable especially that there are still no major competition for the family audience until Oz comes in. Very good run for Mama and Parental Guidance

As for the movie star discussion about Melissa, I agree she's not a movie star yet because to get that title it takes time. But yes she's an IT girl right now. As for her weight, I've watched all the 3 TV shows she has been part of (Gilmore Girls, Samantha Who? and Mike & Molly) and she's not as fat there, she only looks quite huge in her movies so far. I dunno maybe it's the dresses? I don't think she's morbidly obese though.

I wish ZDT makes it to $100 million. The only Oscar I think it could win is Sound Editing so it might not get major Oscar boost. But for what is worth without the Oscar buzz it won't likely earn half of what its grossed so far

This. What an 'enchanting' performance

Brave just won in two guild awards (editing and sound)

4. Escape From Planet Earth (Weinstein) NEW [Runs 3,288] PGFriday $3.6M4-Day Holiday $21.0M 5. Warm Bodies (Summit/Lionsgate) Week 3 [Runs 2,897] PG13Thursday $2.5M, Friday $2.7M4-Day Holiday $10.5M, Cume $51.7M 10. Mama (Universal) Week 5 [Runs 1,648] PG13Thursday $725K, Friday $700K4-Day Weekend $3.0M, Cume $68.5M *** Escape from Planet Earth did fine and that was barely promoted right? The family audience is really starved for something to watch. Oz and Croods should do well next month Warm Bodies is having a quiet but solid run and Mama did really well

Mike & Molly is really bland but inoffensive though (yeah there are fat jokes but it's not mean spirited). She does not shine on that show that much and she totally won that Emmy because of Bridesmaids goodwill. But whenever that show has dramatic/emotional moments, Melissa pulls it off (especially the episodes leading to their wedding last season)
-
Wow Identity Thief! Yay Melissa! I do hope The Heat will have better critical reception though so that the goodwill she still has from the audience and some critics (most negative reviews still notes that she is likable and somehow elevates the bad material) will not be wasted. And SLP will cross 100 million before the Oscars! Great! I was underwhelmed with its first wide weekend box office but then it had great holds the succeeding weeks so yeah Harvey clearly knew what he was doing with SLP. It will likely get a major boost after the Oscars as well.

As kids we should like some dumb stuff, we need that in our lives because being an adult is a bitch haha

Just saw Queen of Versailles, sad it was snubbed

Riva Interview at The Wrap and I found this part interesting http://www.thewrap.com/awards/column-post/oscars-oldest-nominee-emmanuelle-riva-amour-its-gift-last-stage-my-life-77236?page=0,2 Now I understand why Maggie Smith does not attend the award shows. I didn't realize how long plane traveling hours could be difficult for people their age.

Brave won BAFTA and also swept the Visual Effects group awards. So it looks like Brave vs Ralph for the win. But I still would not count out Frankenweenie and ParaNorman, they are after all the ones that won most of the critics group awards. Very competitive race this year.
