  1. Just read that Lionsgate stock value fell by 8.5% because Catching Fire didn't meet "tracking expectations".It's one thing to play around with tracking on box office forums but there's a real danger if pre-release tracking is being used as an exact science.
  2. Yeah, that's what I meant.Very emotive actors (and actresses) tend to have them.
  3. Lenny Kravitz is the man.He just radiates cool effortlessly. He beats both of Katniss's boy toys.
  4. Finally watched Catching Fire.It was very good. Not great but quite powerful and harrowing.Jennifer Lawrence is a pretty talented actress (with a rubbery face) but I did get a little weary of her constant shouting of"PEETA!!, PEETAAAAA!!!. I swear that dude was dangerously close to becoming a "dude in distress".
  5. Dr Doom, Magneto, Sabretooth, Kang The Conqueror, Bullseye, Thanos and Apocalypse are all cool Marvel villains.Unfortunately, Dr Doom, Bullseye and Sabretooth have been royally screwed by Fox. I just hope that Marvel can do some justice to Kang and not do a "Malekeith" on him.
  6. Spider-man 2 beats all of Nolan's Batman movies.Yep, I said it (and I'm a Batman fan).
  7. Well, that was disappointing. I was expecting between $160-$180M.That being said, I think people on this forum are a little spoiled.I mean, a $145M opening is nothing to sniff at.
  8. I've said it here a number of times that Catching Fire won't do that much internationally (comparatively speaking of course) because:A. It's not in 3-D. Lots of markets are 3-D only and international audiences aren't yet bummed out on 3-D. Not to mention the fact that lots of theaters still give preference to 3-D movies, CF opened here but Thor 2 had just as many screens as it.B. The first Hunger Games wasn't huge outside of Europe and the AmericasC. In SA, I didn't see much marketing for the money (if any) compared to Thor 2 and The Hobbit: Desolation of Smaug.
  9. I don't know.Domestically, Thor might drop quite a bit next weekend but if it continues to play like a family movie, then it will be fine. It's definitely going to cross $200M but by how much I don't know. Late year releases tend to play longer (except for Twilight which is horrendously front loaded).Internationally, it's still going to do strong business. Catching Fire isn't going to hamper it very much outside the US and parts of Europe
  10. Funny enough, I actually enjoyed John Carter for what it was.I have no idea why Disney sunk so much money into it and marketed it so poorly.
  11. EXACTLY!IM3's increase domestically was majorly because of the addition of 3-D.T:TDW is already around $480M in just two weeks. It's pretty much exploded overseas where myself (and a few others) have noted that's where there's an Avengers effect.I see the movie finishing around $650M-$670M total. Catching Fire will open big in some territories (I haven't seen a single trailer for it down here) but Thor is 3-D only in a number if territories and it will continue to play big with the family crowd. I don't know about the US but is playing much more like a family movie here than even IM3 and with the holidays coming up, that bodes well for its late waning legs.
  12. Wow, about $17m for Thor. That's a pretty big jump.
  13. Awww, MOS wasn't that bad. However, the trailers did sell the movie as something that it wasn't. The person that cut that trailer deserves an Oscar. MOS trailer was one of the best ever.
  14. Yep.Seriously though, that $4bn Disney paid for Marvel is looking more and more like a bargain.Marvel is the Pixar of superhero movies.
  15. Wow, is CF actually going to hit Thor that hard OS? Thor is 3-D only in some territories and it's not going to lose those screens to CF unless it tapers off on its own.The only movies that have lots of steam going into X-mas here in SA are Thor and the Hobbit. Honestly, outside of Europe, I'm not sure CF will make big box office like Thor or The Hobbit. The first Hunger Games had a very limited impact here and CF looks to continue that trend.
  16. It's pretty odd. Lots of Marvel fans are gloating over the success of their movies and lots of DC fans are terribly insecure and somewhat envious of Marvels success (which is bizarre as none of us has any personal stakes in these movies). There are a few people who are generally neutral and much prefer the tone of Nolan's movies to other superhero movies. That's a point of view I really respect as there is something to be said about too much humor in superhero movies...*cough*Thor:The Dark World*cough*.That being said, the Marvel vs DC flame war here is far worse and much more petty than some actual comic book sites. And that's saying something.
  17. Wow, so Thor actually increased a bit. I guess the movie is going to play like a family movie.I actually had to change seats three (3) times in the theater I was because of noisy kids (part of the reason I generally avoid family movies in theaters).$86M will be a very strong opening to a movie I found very disappointing. It could have been so much more IMO.
