  1. Ah, ok, I was trying to track down if it was just a limited release or not. How weird to not release it wide considering the budget.
  2. I feel like this is deja vu all over again. I remember the same freakouts for Catching Fire's OD, but this is happening even earlier with the preview numbers.
  3. Wait, is that Sunshine domestic number right? 3 million total? Wow, it is right. Didn't realize how much that bombed here in the US.
  4. I mean, technically speaking that is correct. But that just means you're taking the stance that a lot of theoretical physics is made up. And I can't even tell anymore if people are serious when they think that Nolan was saying love is the fifth dimension or just poking fun at how overly done he pushed the whole concept of love.
  5. Your dedication to flogging this show is admirable. Think I'll add this to my queue to check out.
  6. Yeah I was surprised to see Battle Royale is not listed as sci-fi, considering its sequel is listed.
  7. Is Chronicle considered a superhero movie? Just curious, I'm not done yet refining a list so I don't even know if it'll make mine.
  8. It's not like they were trying to keep it a secret, the kids were just ignoring it. There's news cameras all around to interview the 'winner' somewhere in the beginning. The fact that it wasn't effective and the government kept doing it probably indicates how sadistic the government had become. But to be honest, the tactic itself is stupid and illogical anyway in either movie. It's not a good way to quash rebellion, it's just a hook for the movie.
  9. Maybe we saw different versions of the movie, but I thought the BR act was explained in the beginning of the movie. The fact that the kids have no idea what the act was just highlighted the intent of the act. The games are there in both movies as intimidation factors to try to quash rebellion.
  10. And again, it's not about the shock value of the violence to me. It's the fact that the games are more interpersonal and there's actual real conflict between the people that forces desperate actions to be taken in those horrible circumstances. You can see a history between the classmates which just doesn't exist in THG. THG and its sequel play out more like survival games rather than games that pit the people against each other. It just lessens the tension and impact of the games to me and downgrades my opinion of both of them.
  11. Wait, didn't you ask what The Wire is? This gif is from The Wire.
  12. I feel bad for people who like THG and have never seen this film. This movie is how the games in the THG movies should have played out. And I don't mean the bloody violence.
  13. Well, take the next logical leap. Murphy was able to solve the equation that seems to allow for some breakthrough in propulsion/travel. Further breakthroughs could have been made in the 60-70 years after that which is where we are the end of the movie. Granted, it's still a needle in a haystack looking for her, but it's not like in that future, interstellar travel isn't possible so he'd just never make it there.
  14. So can I ignore parts of a TV show's run for my list? Like, the last few seasons of Dexter, X-Files, Heroes, etc.?
  15. Here's my list: 1. The Wire I'll make a real list probably later in the month, could binge watch another show or two before it's time to submit a list.
  16. I think the comparison to 2001 is there, it's just shallow. If I gave a general description of the plot to 2001 and Interstellar, they'd come off as very similar (though I haven't seen 2001 in over 10 years so maybe my memory is off). Basically, mankind discovers an anomaly in space. A mission is sent out to investigate this anomaly. Things go awry in the mission, a member of the crew sabotages the mission which forces the main protagonist to an action that is very dangerous. The protagonist ends up in a room where trippy shit happens that will make a lot of the audience go 'huh?'. Now to me, that sounds like both movies, but it's all in the how and why things happen that differentiate the two films.
