  1. I'm still inwardly laughing at how everyone at Paramount involved with Baywatch blamed RT and said that audiences obviously really enjoyed it. Yet its legs show no indication that audiences took to it at all. They seem to make up their own story that allows them to keep doing what they're doing. But then again, that may be why studios like Paramount are falling behind, they don't seem to care to be in touch with audiences. Disney, for all the claims of its unoriginality, seems to be understanding what audiences want right now and are giving it to them. Universal and Warner Bros are also doing pretty well too, but they also seem more willing to take creative risks. And creative risks are how you start large franchises and have large hits. There aren't many large franchises right now that didn't begin with risk.
  2. Why are people angry about what trailers they get? Unless you're seeing it in IMAX, I dont see the point of caring really. Now, I do enjoy watching the trailers but most the time I've already seen the majority of the trailers in theaters by that in point in general.
  3. Thursday increases, now all we need is a larger than average Friday increase to complete its rebound from Tues/Wed
  4. 40s is marginally better than 30s, and The Mummy is a movie where I think reviews might play a decent role. I don't think it was ever bound to be a massive hit though, even if reviews were good.
  5. They can take away showtimes and give it to other movies though. They can also put it on smaller screens.
  6. People are giving RT too much stock. I think it probably plays a marginal role (especially for smaller films) but I don't see it being a defining factor. Think through it GOTG Vol 2 followed a massive WoM hit, it would have increased OW fresh/rotten and legs were decided by WoM. Were Snatched or King Arthur appealing looking movies? No, if anything RT just solidified that. Alien Covenant was fresh and still disappointed OW, and most definitely had terrible WoM. I think Prometheus and franchise fatigue played larger factors here. Pirates 5 was following the trend of the franchise, with each one decreasing by decent percent from the last. Despite that, it still attracted a larger audience this summer than anything not comic book so far. Baywatch may have been somewhat effected by reviews, because I think they have a larger effect on comedies and smaller studio movies. But it could have also simply been audiences rejecting the concept, it's not like Baywatch is something that's in the pop-culture conscious anymore. Wonder Woman had great reviews yet still opened under MoS, SS and BvS which had poor reviews. There's a variety of reasons for that, but reviews are obviously not one of them. Maybe you could argue it would have opened higher with better reviews, but it didn't stop the last three. The Mummy did not have an appealing/original trailer beyond Tom Cruise. It was a reboot of an age-old and dead franchise, I don't think positive reviews would have saved it DOM. Again, more of a sign of franchise fatigue that I'm sure both GA and critics felt. Rough Night wasn't registering online even before reviews, there was no reason to expect a breakout from it. Trans5mers is the fifth movie in a franchise that's had diminishing returns. I don't think people didn't go see it because it got trashed slightly more than the last one, I think people skipped it because they're done with Transformers movies. Not saying good reviews can't help and bad reviews can't hurt. Good reviews can put a movie like Get Out on people's radars, it can also help people for a movie they're on the fence about. But they aren't the make/break factor for every movie. I'm willing to bet any correlation between the two has more to do with critics and GA tastes aligning more often than not.
  7. Lol, this is turning out to be the worst summer for the Box Office of the century.
  8. I want this to do well, but I'm not getting my hopes up. However, Get Out and Split both succeeding gives me some hope.
  9. I could see Baby Driver being like the Nice Guys of this summer. An enjoyable, original blockbuster that bombs. Then again, I could see it being a sleeper hit.
  10. Id love an anthology series, there's so much lore in the ASOIAF to explore. I'd especially like them to explore more of Essos and Sothos, beyond what we've already seen. Another good thing about an anthology series is it could give a variety of directors and producers to take a stab at something, and if something doesn't work, you'll be okay in the next season.
  11. A24's stuff is just to interesting for the GA. They can't handle creativity.
  12. Depends on the budget. People say this about a lot of these comedy sequels, but it's hard to get people interested in a lot of comedy sequels. The cases where they do well seem to be more exception based than rule based. I could see sub-70m DOM for it.
  13. Daddy's Home 2 is going to disappoint like most surprise comedy hit sequels. I don't see the appeal.
  14. TMNT and Civil War weren't losing screens to Transformers on Wednesday though. The drop is fine.
  15. WW lost a lot of screens to TF Wednesday soma drop makes sense. I can see it staying flat or even increasing today, and rebounding this weekend.

  17. Yeah, from what I understand TF4 was already co-financed/co-produced by China due to one of their companies backing it and a large portion being set in China which allowed Paramount to take more of the BO gross.
  18. Paramount should do the next Transformers movie set entirely in China, fill it with Chinese stars, have parts of the movie in Mandarin, and figure out parts of Chinese culture to incorporate. Maybe get that Fast and Furious guy to do it. Im not even joking. It wouldn't make a difference in the US, as it'd bomb either way, and internationally it's not any different than setting the movie in the US. They should experiment and be the first Hollywood studio to make a movie catered for China. (Then again, Mulan might also fit that bill, even if it's aimed at a Western audience too)
  19. Eh, idk. I saw the movie all over the place for the last month or so, I just think the US audiences weren't interested in seeing another Transformers movie.
  20. Paramount doesn't get merchandising revenue. The nationalism is just Bay's style. Im not saying they aren't thinking of the US, but international numbers are why they have all of these Transformers movies and spinoffs planned.
  21. Paramount isn't dead because Transformers is (expectedly) underperforming domestically. They aren't even making the Transformers movies with the US in mind really, it'll still made a nice profit. I do think it'll have diminishing returns world wide though, and so I don't see there being much more to milk from this franchise after this.
  22. I'm gonna go ahead and go all out nuts Wonder Woman over Transformers for the 3-Day Weekend!!!!
  23. They're a new form a fan fiction that's hit mainstream. People post pictures on Instagram as their e-fic cover and write about their wildest fantasies below. Currently mer-people and Pokémon stories are the most popular.
