  1. Fun Fact: Despite having over 20 votes received through nominations, no single movie got over 10. #6
  2. A Frozen short in front of either Big Hero 6 or one of the 2016 Disney films it much more likely.
  3. The theme of the Oscars this year is superheroes and heroes in movies. http://insidemovies.ew.com/2014/02/21/oscar-producers-academy-awards-plans/ Sounds like a better theme for next year, or last year but it should still be interesting. Honestly, I don't get the point of these Oscar themes but whatever.
  4. I think Idina Menzel will bring in more viewers than Pharrell, Let it Go is still the more popular and more known song. Also Happy shouldn't win simply because I always think (and the Oscars tend to do this too) that the original song winner should go to the song that does the best at adding depth to the movie. This year the only songs that do that are The Moon Song and Let it Go. I also think Happy is a really annoying song, it's way to repetitive and boring. It's a decent song and sang well, but there is nothing to it.
  5. That has to do with it being the single to the new album, that doesn't mean it's a bigger hit or more popular than Let it Go. (Let it go having over 100m youtube views speaks for it) Also, I always thought Original Song should go to the song that did the best at enhancing the film and not necessarily the most popular song or best song. Which in that case Let It God definitely would deserve the win (With Moon Song in second). Honestly the Oscars tend to do what I said above, look at recent winners 2013: Skyfall, definitely served the movie very well (despite also being the most popular), and it really captured the soul of 007. 2012: Man or a Muppet, it didn't have much competition but it also won based on its merit to benefiting the movie. 2011: This is an exception mostly because it was Randy Newman, and as an end credits song it really worked to capture the Toy Story vibe (Although I do think Tangled should have won here) 2010: Fairly weak year, but the winner was a song that worked on adding depth to the movie.
  6. Gravity (To be fair it did open on my birthday, just not necessarily the one I was born on....)
  7. This next one tied with Paranormal Activity in points but exceeded it in votes. #9
  8. X-Men is a travesty and Days of Future Past looks like it'll be one of the worst films created of all time.

  11. I'll start this off for today with give you what was voted number 3 for most overrated of 2013, It was....
  12. Edited mine to add the Guardians of the Galaxy
  13. If it makes you feel better it had the same number of points as this next one, it just happened to have one less vote than it so I used that to break the tie. And so number 11 is a movie I absolutely despise. #11
  14. That's interesting, and while acting is the biggest branch, if you group the techies together (FX, cinematographers, editors, and sound (you could also include directors and music) they are definitely the biggest branch). I always found it weird that the techies weren't at least close to the largest group, now it makes sense why they aren't considered to be.
  15. While you could argue that Frozen is also an original movie, it was also of the Disney Princess brand which is incredibly popular, it also had an excellent release date. Gravity was an original, space thriller released in October with the only mainstream appeal being Bullock and Clooney, I definitely think this was a case where the reviews helped. People heard the early buzz from the early screenings, especially about the visuals so it got people to go out and go.
  16. I'd hardly call Argo, The King's Speech, Slumdog Millionare, The Departed, or Million Dollar Baby, at best they were hits. I could see you calling Chicago a blockbuster and Return of the King a blockbuster, yet those won back to back. The last actual blockbuster to win BP was Return of the King, you also aren't taking into account the majority of the 100m+ BP grossers wouldn't have gotten to 100m if they handn't gotten Oscar nominees, Argo and the Departed being the two exceptions (Although they barely scraped by 100m). An actual mainstream film has not won since Return of the King.
  17. The Oscars will do everything possible to avoid a tie for BP.
