Watched it a second time, still like this a lot! The standout sequence for me would be the Rodan chase leading to the Ghidorah encounter. Goosebumps-inducing stuff, and a classic Toho tradition brought to life. The Ghidorah reveal with the lightning flashes and all with the Monarch crew staring in horror also carries the sequence as well!

A pulpy, globe-trotting adventure that really feels like a Toho film/Godzilla comic through Hollywood lenses. I honestly enjoyed the human aspect of the film! Reading the critic reviews, I braced for the worst...but even without keeping my expectations low going in, they were genuinely fun to watch for me. The acting definitely played a big part behind that!! Plus the central drama is well-handled especially for a Godzilla flick. Dialogue was cheesy and of the fun, summer blockbuster kind. As for the monsters...Ill admit I was bit underwhelmed with the fight scenes (guess that was an effect of my going over leaks and every released clip imaginable ) Gotta say though the sprinkling of monsters throughout was very very fun and I adored how the plot was nearly always centered about them & their effects on the characters and plot. Wouldnt have minded more monster shots though The Big 4 each had their moments and were definitely full of life!!!! What a job by Dougherty & co. The only scene I was annoyed with was when they had to rescue the last Monarch aircraft in Mexico while cutting in the Rodan/Ghidorah encounter. Its not the idea of cutting away that annoyed me, its just that the whole scene killed the momentum and felt too contrived IMO. Overall, as a whole I found KOTM to be easily a good film..but thinking about the G14 & KSI, I cant help but think they managed to better execute and stage their big moments & setpieces (like the big G14 Hawaii reveal or the quieter Kong/Mire Squid scene). Did things in KOTM feel a bit more...rushed? I cant really define it rn. Cant end without saying this: theres a clear love for the franchise on display here and that was incredible to see on the big screen. I cant see my score being lower than a very solid B+ for this, and I can easily imagine that score going up.

I just used the Youtube screencaps for reference, sorry about that. 😅 Btw, I myself saw BP on an IMAX screen and the vfx in those sequences was clearly not as convincing as the rest of the movie. Im basing my observations on what I saw then and simply using the video to provide the next best approximation.

The VFX for Killmonger definitely looks good in that shot. However, I was referring to the CGI in the final battle in the Vibranium mine though. The cgi models for BP/Killmonger get quite wonky there 😅 Thats not a knock on the entire film though, Im just saying that for some moments I just found the CGI in the film to be distracting.

$580m wouldnt be great, but it would still be a healthy profit...right? 🤔 Especially considering that the DOM-OS split looks to be good.

Sometimes I forget that millions of kids around the world have yet to watch most of the classic Disney library...puts things into perspective.

IMO, it doesnt look bad. A bit questionable? Yeah. I think the fact that hes in motion makes him look off? It adds to the blur effect. For me, it doesnt seem as bad as Steppenwolf in some shots or some BP/Killmonger final battle scenes, going by recent blockbusters.

IMO, this looks really good from a visual standpoint.

Different year, different marketing strategy...Disney could have turned this into something very special in terms of box office.

Its getting good to very good WOM so far here in the Philippines. Some reactions have been popping up on my social media feeds. My dad came back from a screening and he had only good things to say about it..then without me bringing up anything..he said, "Well, except for Jafar." 😅

Idk about the rest of Asia but Im sure this will do pretty strong here in the Philippines. The Disney Renaissance films are very, very popular here. Plus, I think Speechless will really help with a breakout. Hopefully I can catch this and see any crowds for myself soon.

Here in the Philippines, theres been buzz going around due to the Hemsworth-Thompson chemistry fresh off Ragnarok/Endgame. I wonder if thats simply a small sample size or if its indicative of something bigger, reception-wise.
