  1. Box Office Mojo hasnt updated its Philippine data for over a year now, so based on what I could gather from the individual movie profiles, here they are: 1. Iron man 3 - $14.9M 2. Avengers - $14.3M 3. Civil War - $14.2M 4. Age of Ultron - $14.1M 5. BatmanVSuperman- $11.2M 6. Jurassic World - $11.1M 7. Beauty&TheBeast- ~$10.8M as of 11 days in release 8. Amazing Spider-man 2 - $10.2M 9. The Amazing Praybeyt Benjamin - $9.9M-$10.1M (local film) 10. Transformers4 - $ 9.96M Another local film might have made it to the top 10 but Im not sure. If it was top 10 foreign releases, Furious7 would take the 10th spot with $9.95M.
  2. When Deadline wrote this: What exactly does it mean?? Lionsgate basically recouped 25% of the budget?
  3. Kinda confused here...your post up until the very last statement seems to imply that even at a $500m+ gross Kong still has a long way to go before being profitable due to the budget + P&A?
  4. Finally saw this. Great stuff, and it kept me thinking long after the movie had ended. 3.5/4 Low-budget thrillers dont do very well in theaters over here, so I was very pleasantly surprised when several schoolmates of mine overheard the online buzz, watched, and liked it also. Hopefully the same happened for a lot of other people where I come from.
  5. Speculation is nice and all, but honestly Im not expecting solo outings featuring the likes of them. But if the stars aligned for them to be made thatd be great obviously.
  6. Was wondering if Kong couldve opened higher to $60m+ if it was placed in August.. Then realized it wouldnt be too far off from Planet of the apes.. Did the suits think audiences would have "ape fatigue" or something?? Lol
  7. Shame that $80 million budget really is helping though. For once WB isnt overspending
  8. Kong will probably have a Tarzan-esque run with considerably better OS, and better DOM also if its not too frontloaded. Warner & Legendary should be relieved in the end, but no more Kong solo films for the time being.
  9. Its not like we're saying the same things over here..although Id never be against the idea, personally. Besides, its true that Legendary (& WB to some extent) is placing a lot of their hopes in the Monsterverse.
  10. I wouldnt call PR a bomb at all if it did 40 million (isnt the budget way lower than 190 anyway?)..but maybe some will be expecting it to do way more because of the online hype and awareness?
  11. And forgot to mention this..the IMAX screening had a Kong-style coundown before the film started!!! The countdown started with a "Kong is King (or was it Kong is Coming?)" message, then the background for the entire countdown was the Skull Island horizon complete with roars and jungle noises. Really contributed to the theater experience!!!!
  12. Had a good time watching this. Great visuals and a straightforward story made 2 hours go by fast and easy. 3/4 P.S. the end credits scene is legit!!! Btw I was at an IMAX screening and among the few dozens people there it seemed like I was the only person less than 25 years old...lots of middle-aged viewers indeed. Plus people clapped at the end!! Guess WOM will be good, especially with the finale.
  13. Seems like his next project is the Metal Gear Solid film...unless that doesnt take off.
  14. Really enjoyed this. Great visuals as expected from this kind of movie, humor that landed like 99% of the time for me, and a pretty good life lesson to wrap it up nicely.
  15. Just came from watching this: (Didnt watch the original, but I enjoyed stuff like Cloverfield and the V/H/S movies) *I found the first 2 acts okay. Some good moments of tension, but mostly nothing remarkably great or unwatchable. *Really liked the climax. Was genuinely scared by some stuff in here. There's also a pretty neat concept that plays with the fact that Ill give it 3/4 for now cos I liked the finale..a lot.
