  1. Yeah. I just checked twitter and it is getting great response. I don't think there is an embargo so we should be getting some full reviews in the next couple of hours.
  2. Have you read the book ? This is just one of the most amazing stories I have ever read. Herman Melville was inspired by this story to write Moby Dick. Edgar Alan Poe's The Narrative Of Arthur Gordon Pym Of Nantucket , one of the most fucked up novel ever written, was also inspired by some events of this story. I hope they don't try to Hollywoodize it by making them heroes.
  3. I saw this movie a long time ago. Some people may not know it but the director of this movie has also directed good movies like The Wackness, 50/50 and Warm Bodies.
  4. It is a really, really difficult book to adapt. They will still be working on the script while the movie is being shot.
  5. Cinedigm is distributing and they are a small distribution company that relies on VOD to make money. They movie isn't going to make a lot of money and it is unlikely to get any awards push at all. http://www.cinedigm.com/marketing.shtml
  6. Brie Larson is getting rave reviews for Short Term 12. She just won a Best Actress award at some Film Festival last week. It is a shame that the distributors won't be able to mount an Oscar campaign for her.
  7. This is probably the most fascinating movie in production right now and is completely flying under the radar. I hope Ron Howard is able to pull it off. This is the sort of movie that can sweep Oscars if done right.
  8. Peter Morgan Reteams With Ron Howard On ‘In The Heart Of The Sea’ EXCLUSIVE: Oscar-nominated screenwriter Peter Morgan has stepped onto In The Heart Of The Sea, Ron Howard’s adaptation of the Nathaniel Philbrick high-seas drama for Warner Bros and Village Roadshow Pictures. Principal photography starts in the UK on September 10 and marks a reteam for Howard and Morgan who previously collaborated on Frost/Nixon and the upcoming racing pic Rush.
  9. It is an important criteria if you are trying to win an Oscar but it doesn't matter when you are making a good movie that makes money at the Box Office. Warner Bros. just chose Ben Affleck over some better actors being mentioned for the role of Batman. This is how the business side (the most important side) of Hollywood works. I have nothing against Mia but she isn't an upgrade over Emma.
  10. She did a small indie movie called "Paper Man" with Jeff Daniels back in the day and she is pretty good in that movie. I think she is perfectly capable of doing movies other than comedies.
  11. I think you can argue that Mia is a better actress than Stone but you can't argue that she is an upgrade over Emma Stone in this movie. Emma Stone is a legitimate Box Office draw and she has never weighed any movie down. Wasikowska may be a better actress but that's not an important criteria. Losing Cumberbatch and Stone isn't good news for this movie.
  12. ^^^ DDL and Hathaway were good guesses. DDL is always that good while the Best Supporting Actress field is usually that bad. JLaw was a good prediction but it happened after hundreds of critics and industry insiders had already seen the movie.
  13. People shouldn't be making predictions this early. You haven't seen even 10% of the movies that will legitimately compete for Oscars this year so how in Hades can you predict anything ? It's just guesswork at this point.
  14. Why is this her only chance ? Streep is going to stay relevant for a long, long time as she is a considerable box office draw as well. I'm just saying that if Oprah's performance is good enough to get a nomination then Harvey is not going to let this opportunity go to waste.
  15. If it is down to Meryl and Oprah for Harvey, he will pick Oprah. Meryl is a regular fixture at Oscars while Oprah isn't but she is the highest profile woman in the world. A legitimate Oscar campaign for Oprah will do wonders for Harvey and TWC. Harvey has a shrewd sense of business and politics. If Oprah's performance is Oscar-worthy he is not letting this opportunity go to waste.
  16. http://www.deadline.com/2013/08/did-oprah-affect-box-office-the-butler-tops-box-office-friday/#utm_source=dlvr.it&utm_medium=twitter The Butler $9 million ( A) KA2 $5.5 million (B+) Jobs $2.4 million (B-) Paranoia $1.3 million ( C )
  17. He didn't say anything extraordinary. Every major actor ,with the possible exception of Will Smith, has said something similar at some point in their lives.
  18. Henry Cavill was in a dumped movie last year that also featured Bruce Willis. I can't be bothered to google its name but the point is that bad movies usually don't make money. Bad movies with no marketing muscle behind them never make money regardless of the starring talent.
  19. First Kick Ass movie made $100 million WW. Mark Millar said in an interview that they made another $140 million from DVD/Bluray sales etc and they have kept the budget low for this one. The movie is guaranteed to be a success with a $18-20 million opening.
  20. Actors who have made it in Hollywood usually don't give a fuck about Box Office unless they are also producing the movie. Even some producers like Clooney say they keep the budget low so as to make Box Office irrelevant. BoxOffice ‏@BoxOffice 8m Early weekend projections: BUTLER $25 mil; KICK-ASS 2 $18.5 mil; JOBS $11.5 mil; PARANOIA $5.5 mil
  21. Most A-list actresses don't work with A-list directors. Most A-list directors are males who make movies from the point of view of male protagonists and there is no reason for someone like Jolie, Aniston etc. to work with someone like Scorsese if she is going to be the fourth or fifth lead.
  22. Actually, Aniston has had a very good Q-score for nearly two decades so she doesn't quite get the hatred that other actresses get. Compare her marketability numbers to someone like Angelina Jolie, who used to be really hated, and you will see.
  23. Jennifer Aniston has been a Box Office draw for at least a decade. People underestimate her because they see her as an ex-sitcom star but the reality is that her movies make money more often than not.
  24. Rumor but it makes sense. If you are getting rid of Cruise and giving up on some overseas revenue then may as well slash the budget.
