  1. I view found footage genre as an excuse to make cheap, shitty movies with bad actors, bad direction and with minimum effort so I agree. I am glad that this fad is beginning to fade or it could've seriously damaged the horror genre.
  2. I hope they don't rush the sequel. Summer 2016 is when MOS2 should be released.
  3. Horror movies have a real life fanbase and it always shows up. Even shitty 2-3% RT wide release horror movies routinely open in the 10-15 million range. I think The Conjuring will make around $30 million or so.
  4. Identity Thief made $40 million from the overseas markets while The Heat has made $16 million from 30 overseas territories so far. The Heat will likely finish around $145 million domestic and $50 million from the overseas markets. $195 million vs $175 million Decent reviews vs Poor Reviews February Release vs Summer Release Jason Bateman vs Sandra Bullock. Like I said, let us see The Heat start kicking Identity Thief's ass before we should give any credit to Bullock. So far it is all Melissa McCarthy.
  5. $6 million Wednesday opening for a movie that should appeal to younger kids is alright. Its big test will come on the weekend.
  6. I think they mean next October. They can't possibly release a movie with no script or director in three months timeframe. Right ?
  7. Behind the 'Paranormal' Date Change: Latino Spin-Off Coming, '5' Doesn't Exist Yet (Exclusive) The “Paranormal Activity" movie Paramount just moved from October to January is not "Paranormal Activity 5" -- but rather the planned Latino-targeted spin-off, formerly known as "The Oxnard Tapes," several individuals with knowledge of the project tell TheWrap. A fifth installment of the "Paranormal" franchise, which still has no script or director, is more likely to come in October, sources say. TheWrap was first to report Tuesday that Paramount was shifting its "Paranormal" dates. http://www.thewrap.com/movies/article/paramount-delayed-paranormal-activity-5-because-movie-doesn-t-exist-yet-103976
  8. According to Ben Fritz, PA5 is actually "The Oxnard Tapes", the Latino spinoff. Really weird move on all fronts , if true. Ben Fritz ‏@benfritz 1h Paramount delays next Paranormal Activity to January. It's the "Oxnard Tapes" latino spin-off and, yes, it has been shot.
  9. You really think the person who made the list actually saw The Raid. Come on, I was half expecting Little Nicky to be in top 15 while I was scrolling down the list.
  10. This list is completely shit. Anyone who thinks TDK is a better action movie than Mission:Impossible need to have their head examined. Edit : Point Break is only #24 and there is no Fast and Furious. Fuck Vulture.
  11. The Matrix should be #1. It is a movie that revolutionized the action genre. You can tell which action movie was produced before The Matrix and which came after it became a success.
  12. People are resorting to revisionist history. Ryan Reynolds' career has been in free fall since TGL flopped but he was one of the big Hollywood names back in 2009 so was Bullock but she had a spotty record in the decade preceding that movie. Who knows what happened with that movie ? It is just one of those movies that clicked with the audience and made a lot of money. The point I am making is that nothing Bullock had done previously Box Office-wise justifies giving her sole credit for that movie. People try to fit things into narratives to make them easier to understand and I guess it is easy to give credit for The Proposal to Sandra Bullock, an Oscar winner , but she was nowhere the name then that she is now and she didn't have the Oscar either. Sandra Bullock's box office history http://www.boxofficemojo.com/people/chart/?id=sandrabullock.htm And I will keep repeating that the credit for "The Heat" must all go to Melissa McCarthy unless and until it starts kicking Identity Thief's ass. As things stand right now, it is one track to replicate Identity Thief's domestic and overseas performance which opened just 5 months ago ,which was all Melissa McCarthy and which had terrible reviews. .
  13. If you think this year was bad then wait until summer 2015. There are so many big movies coming out that everything will open big and nothing will have good legs.
  14. Not really. If an actor has worked for 20 years without being a draw and then suddenly has two big hits then it is illogical to assume that he/she was the prime mover. The Proposal was Bullock's first hit movie in 9 years. It was Ryan Reynolds second hit movie in two months. X-Men came out in may of that year. It was a movie that worked for some reason but no one can legitimately claim Sandra Bullock opened that movie. The Heat is tracking almost identically to Identity Thief and will likely finish in the same Box Office ballpark so I don't see how Bullock mattered.
  15. Sandra Bullock is over-rated at the box office. The Heat was all Melissa McCarthy and both of her movies will probably finish with identical domestic and WW gross. TBS and The Proposal would've done as well at the box office as they did with any other actress. She has less than half a dozen Box Office hit movies in over two decades which isn't an impressive track record.
  16. It is higher than 30% unless China dominates the overseas total. Studio's cut is only 25% in China but in other territories it varies from 30% - 50 %.
  17. High profile actors take pay cut only for Oscar bait movies and for passion projects. Sandler has no interest in either of those things so why would he work for under $20 million ?
  18. I am expecting big numbers from China and Japan so 300 million overseas should happen and 100 million domestic may still happen. depending on the WOM
  19. This movie has a $200 million budget so the rule of thumb says it needs to make 400 million WW to break even. I don't think that's a tall order if it keeps doing well in Asia. People are being too hasty here by completely writing this off. This won't be a massive hit obviously but that doesn't mean it is a failure.
  20. Interstellar should be good for $500 million WW if it is very good but people are putting too much faith in Nolan if they believe his name alone can carry a space exploration movie past $500 million. People just don't give a fuck about most Sci-Fi movies.
  21. $38 million is probably where it will end up if the $14.5 million Friday number is accurate.
  22. Box Office: ‘Pacific Rim’ Hovering $38 Million for the WeekendGuillermo del Toro’s “Pacific Rim” may not be a “Lone Ranger” bomb at the box office but neither is it a monster performer, at least not in the U.S. Fanboys generated a husky $3.6 million Thursday night, similar to surprise hit “World War Z” ($66 mil debut), but according to early estimates, the $200 million “Pacific Rim” was only tracking around $38 million for the weekend, just as industry analysts projected for the sci-fi tentpole. “It started off really strong but then it fell off,” one analyst said. http://variety.com/2013/film/news/box-office-pacific-rim-hovering-at-38-million-for-the-weekend-1200562349/
  23. Just checked Fandango and Pacific Rim doesn't appear to be on a lot of screens anywhere.
  24. I am going to be a Contrarian and say that there is nothing wrong with what Rex Reed did. He didn't try to fool anyone. He watched the movie for 20 minutes, couldn't take it anymore and then wrote a review that accurately reflected his views on the movie. Since we are on the topic of bad critics there are plenty of fanboy critics who get free shit from the studios and then write glowing reviews in return. Reed is an asshole but he isn't an unethical asshole.
