  1. Tom Wilkinson and Tim Roth would like a word with you. And David Oyelowo is a talented rising star.Having said that, if the reviews keep being so good, I'd consider replacing Oyelowo with Boseman.
  2. Michael Keaton- BirdmanWhoever goes lead- FoxcatcherBenedict Cumberbatch- The Imitation GameDavid Oyelowo- SelmaTimothy Spall- Mr. TurnerTimothy Spall is in a shaky position, however. I have him ahead of Phoenix only because of the rumours surrounding the tone of Inherent Vice. I'll probably soon change my mind. Jack O'Connell can get a newcomer nod only if Unbroken becomes the frontrunner. The lack of reviews for Get On Up had me worried, but they're finally out and they seem good at least for the lead (more mixed on the film). So Chadwick Boseman is also a possibility.
  3. Is it sensible to release Apes now? It's the weakest time of the year and the previous one already did pretty badly (number 49 of 2011).
  4. Rush lost money? $90m on a $38m budget doesn't seem too bad, especially for an Oscar film. Jeremy Renner has a much more successful non-Marvel career than Hemsworth (American Hustle, Hansel and Gretel, Bourne, MI, The Town), though I wouldn't say he's the main selling point of these movies.
  5. Venezuela is 19.7, not 18.7 (as per BOM, at least).
  6. The first one, however, wasn't very huge in the markets left:Italy $7,505,879Japan $5,540,461Spain $12,458,930Total $25,505,270I think the sequel will increase at least in Spain and Italy, and with holdovers it should easily go past $500m. But I think it needs a breakout in China to get to $550m.
  7. Nice thoughts. The Rock actually looks like the kind of person children would see an an idol. And he's already done family films (Tooth Fairy, Journey 2 The Mysterious Island) so he may have built a fanbase there.
  8. That was also my thought, but they lost as many (more in Maleficent's case) last week, yet their drops were great.
  9. 22JS, HTTYD2 and Maleficent were having some great drops the past few weeks. This weekend seems pretty bad for them.
  10. $110m. Here: http://www.forbes.com/sites/scottmendelson/2014/07/22/will-dwayne-johnsons-hercules-be-summers-first-flop/
  11. You urgently need a lesson in geography. And international politics.
  12. But you said you didn't have citations so I win I win I win I win I win *throws toys at you*.Ok, I don't win.
  13. Isn't that a very good theatre count drop for HTTYD2? I thought it would go below 2,000 with the new releases, Planes first and foremost.
  14. Do you realise that it's ridiculous at this point to claim that girls are the only audience? The movie clearly reached a far wider demographic.
  15. If TF keeps dropping sharply, Maleficent can still win. And Apes has a chance. And GOTG as well, if it opens above $70m.
  16. I love the Maleficent score and think it's the best among this year's blockbusters. Maleficent theme (especially towards the end) is amazing.
  17. I hope this does not refer (also) to my post. A historically accurate depiction of people of colour in Denmark in the times Frozen is set (same time as the composition of the tale,19th century, judging from the dresses used) would have entailed characters in lowly and degrading roles. Even if we include Sami among people of colour (I seem to understand that in English, unlike my language, "people of colour" means non-white rather than black) the argument would still hold. Sami were being exhibited in human zoos in Scandinavia in the nineteenth century.Of course, if we do not cling to historical accuracy (given the fantastical elements), then that's a completely different story.Edit: Back to topic, the character designs are wonderful.
  18. People at Screendaily should be informed that Wales is part of the UK...
  19. I have read the article in the link and it has confirmed what I suspected. There probably were people of colour in Denmark at the time, yet they would have been servants, decorations, toys or objects of wonder, especially in the context of a royal palace. A good representation is given in the recent Danish film "A Royal Affair". If people of colour had to be accurately incorporated in Frozen, it would have to be in very demeaning positions. I'm not sure whether this would have been welcomed by the public as a positive step.
  20. I think the poster was talking about movies with a very American subject. Even Lincoln (Spielberg + DDL + Oscar) did less than $100m.
  21. This is what the first one grossed in the markets left (except China):Germany $15,496,906Italy $7,505,879Japan $5,540,461South Korea $25,108,317Spain $12,458,930 Even if it stays flat (unlikely), that's more than $65m. If you add the markets where it's already playing and China, $277m should be very easy to reach.
