  1. Can we get a list of all MCU movies and grosses in euros or admissions?
  2. Are there pre-sales for Ant-Man 2? Is there any reason to suspect it won't out-gross its predecessor?
  3. Bottom line China: $377.6M (final) OS–China: $989.5M All that's can be said about the film has been said. Well done, Marvel. Can't wait for Avengers 4.
  4. The only issue is that Ralph 2 and Marry Poppins 2 open in many markets after the New Year, so it won't count towards the 2018 gross.

'Mamma Mia 2' crashed once again but still managed to retain first place for a 3rd weekend in a row. It has actually dropped so badly that 'Drac Pack 3', which stayed in second place for a 3rd weekend in a row, has chances of surpassing 'Mamma Mia 2' in total admissions by the end of their runs. Three French comedies finished off the Top 5, although, as noted in the original source, the state of the Greek box office is probably funnier (if you like black humour) than the comedies themselves. 'C'est la vie!' is interestingly managing to capitalise on good word-of-mouth, and with a whole month of summer left, it could get close to 100K admissions, if cinema owners don't take it off their screens. The bottom half of the chart is as uninteresting as you'd expect. 2 films did manage to get a boost from last weekend (boy, was that 'Mamma Mia' drop hard) but it is insignificant in the grand scheme of things. 'The Darkest Minds' was a total disaster, as in the US & Canada, possibly since young people are enjoying their holidays at the beach or in their grandparents' village, rather than in the big cities.
  6. Disney is days away from crossing $6B WW for the year (total atm is north of $5.95B). This is the third year in a row it achieves this milestone. $7B by the end of the year is guaranteed. The all-time record ($7.6B) achieved by Disney is not out of reach. Same stands for $8B.
  7. We are saying the same thing. TS2 sold more tickets in total but because they were children ticket's, the gross for TS3 is higher. The other thing that is inflating the TS3 gross is 3D. Also, the adjusted figures are produced using the average ticket price, which is quite a useless figure when it comes to individual films. It's only useful to estimate the total number of admissions sold during an entire year in all cinemas across the country.
  8. Ray Subers had once written an article saying that TS3 sold fewer tickets than TS2. This means that TS3's $494M adjusted gross is less than TS2's $443M adjusted gross. Similarly, FN's $522M gross is probably more than 522*494/443 = $582M. So actually, I2 has to gross more than $582M to even have a chance. (I apologise, my $575M estimate was rough and not based on exact calculations) IMO, if I2 reaches $600M, it's probably comparable to Nemo to some extent.
  9. Ray Subers has said that thesed charts are inaccurate. My estimate for Nemo is $575M.
  10. According to my rough estimates, Incredibles 2 is about to become the highest-grossing Pixar film, when adjusting for inflation, ahead of Finding Nemo ($575M).
  11. Among sequels of $1.5B+ films, JW:FK does not rank last anymore, since it has just passed Fate of the Furious. It will probs not beat TLJ (and definitely not AoU for that matter) so it will rank 3/4.

'Hotel Transylvania 3' had a nice comeback this week and is only trailing its predecessor by 2.2K admissions. 'The First Purge', the top opener, has scored the best opening of the franchise. I should note though that 'The Purge' and 'The Purge: Anarchy' did not qualify for a theatrical release in Greece and went straight to DVD/Bluray. 'The Purge: Election Year' was the first to open in theaters, achieving a 3,545-admission opening and a 16,873-admission total. 'Charming' opened in the shadow of 'Hotel Transylvania 3'. 'C'est la vie!' is had the best hold of the Top 10.

It almost matched its predecessor, which opened to 45,815 admissions (56,824 admissions when including previews) in October of 2015, a month that is busier than July at the box office. That one finished with 175K admissions, a total that this one is aiming for too. It is worth noting that 'C'est la vie!' enjoyed a nice bump – will it be this summer's 'Qu'est-ce qu'on a fait au Bon Dieu?' (130K admissions in summer 2014). 'American Animals' scored the best per-screen average of the weekend (679 admissions). That film's 622K-admission total is far out of reach and it seems that anything above 250K admissions will be a success, since it will be lurking at similar levels to the 'Fifty Shades' franchise. The weekend's total admissions were 122,993 admissions, which was thte highest total for a weekend in the month of July, since the weekend that 'Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows – Part 2' opened, seven years ago. That weekend's total was 146,525 admissions. As for holdovers, 'Hotel Transylvania 3' had a precipitous drop – far worse than its predecessor's 42% drop. It is now trailing that film by 7K admissions. It will probably finish between the first and second film (135K and 175K admissions), although if the sharp drops continue, it may hit rock bottom. 'Ant-Man 2' has now successfully surpassed its predecessor and has a small chance of topping 'Captain America: The First Avenger' (65,938 admissions) but will otherwise remain second from the bottom in the MCU. I could talk about other films but I have little time and I also don't see the point.

Then, it was 'Spider-Man: Homecoming', which opened to 41.6K admissions. This year, 'Ant-Man 2' opened to less than half the admissions, matching its predecessor (18,674 admissions). It may be the time of year, it may be that Ant-Man didn't even play in 'Infinity War', it may be that Marvel just hasn't persuaded Greeks that 'Ant-Man' is a thing. For whatever reason, the two 'Ant-Man' films have scored the two worst openings of the MCU. 'Ant-Man' is also at the bottom of the list in terms of total admissions (47,895). It seems reasonable to expect 'Ant-Man 2' to follow the same pattern and finish around 50K admissions. 'Hotel Transylvania 3' had previews this weekend, which were lower than its predecessor (11K admissions) and also lower than the last Hollywood animated film that had previews: Kung Fu Panda 3 (12K admissions). As for holdovers, 'Incredibles 2' continued its solid path to 150K admissions but 'Ocean's 8' may miss the 100K-admission milestone. 'Fallen Kingdom' had another sharpd drop (like most films this weekend, to be fair) and 'Deadpool 2' has passed 220K admissions.

Drops were not as bad for the big blockbusters although there was no real competition anyway. 'Ocean's 8' may just about manage to scrape past 100K admissions. 'Incredibles 2' is 22K admissions ahead of its predecessor, meaning that it is on course to top 150K admissions. 'Fallen Kingdom' is about 50K admissions behind 'Jurassic World' and will probably finish around 120K admissions, compared to 'Jurassic World's' 182K admissions. In other news, 'Deadpool 2' has officially surpassed its predecessor and is cashing in at 219.9K admissions. 'Infinity War' ended its run at 363.4K admissions. We are at the year's mid-point. 2018 is running about 5-10% behind the last 3 years (2015–2017), all 3 of which ended between 9.8 and 10.1 million admissions. However, it is 8-9% ahead of 2013 and 2014 and 1% ahead of 2012. If the second semester does not recover, we are headed for about 9.5 million admissions at the year's end.

This time it was 'Ocean's' turn to disappoint: 'Ocean's Twelve' scored a 3-day opening of 83,000 admissions back in December 2004, while 'Ocean's Thirteen' scored a 4-day opening of 101,900 admissions. There are no data for 'Ocean's Eleven'. In total admissions, 'Twleve' sold about 460K and 'Thirteen' sold 266K. 'Ocean's 8' wil be lucky to reach 100K admissions. With regard to holdovers, 'Incredibles 2' is running ahead of its predecessor, which was at 74,300 admissions by its second Sunday. It has chances of reaching 150K admissions, but it will not get further than that since 'Hotel Transylvania 3' opens in 3 weeks. The Pixar average of 196K admissions is out of reach. 'Jurassic World 2' is running far behind its predecessor, which dropped 54% on its 3rd weekend, selling 13,005 admissions, for a total of 140,878 admissions. 'Deadpool 2' has done well in Greece, needing only a few hundred admissions to surpass its predecessor's total.
  18. It is kind of insulting to anyone who is not American or Canadian. We know you guys don't give a f@ck about anything else that happens outside your borders, so you might as well stop pretending that you do. On the other hand, the BOM managers may just be imbeciles, who knows...

  20. Making such a prediction before the film's run started is completely OK. Saying it when it has already opened to $112M in China and 8% lower in most other countries is just nonsensical.
  21. Honestly the whole "it-will-do-less-than-a-billion" chat is complete nonsense. I don't understand why so many real people believe this is possible.
  22. Personally, I thought the film was abhorrent. Nothing like tis predecessor. But if it managed an A+ CinemaScore, what can I say? I guess it will have good WOM.
