ONE WEEK LEFT Time is running out, so you better get your lists right away. Otherwise, you are missing out on a once in a lifetime list. If you don't reach the July 4th deadline, you're done for good. @21C@35MM-18@3jp@4815162342@75Live@8wombi7@A Star is Orm@abra@abracadabra1998@AdrianL@Alex The Box Office Buzz and Tracking Thread (December 2021 - July 2023)

I mean it and Elvis are the only two big examples post-pandemic? Even NTTD arguably underperformed here in North America. Just because one or two movies overperformed doesn't mean much IMO. They're just exceptions to the rule, considering almost every other big movie has largely delivered with the 18-34 crowd in particular. -

Something I do want to bring up for both Indy and Mission: Impossible (even Oppenheimer if M37's 35-45 OW comes into fruition) is that these movies are reliant on old white guys who don't go to the movies anymore. Almost every big movie that comes out skews towards the 18-34 crowd, arthouse fare aimed at youngsters have typically been the only notable hits (Asteroid City, Past Lives), Caucasian viewer percentages have gotten smaller and smaller and smaller. A big chunk of old Gen Xers and boomers who likely went to the movies more frequently have stuck with their 4K TVs and soundbars and don't want to deal with people out there. I know from experience from my own boomer parents, who I've taken to see movies with less and less. When my mom said we're gonna skip our annual Christmas tradition of going to the theater to see a movie and instead watch something at home, that was a big sign things were changing. And obviously I don't think Indiana Jones or Oppenheimer or whatever would be massive, gigantic hits if old white guys were active at the movies, but that is something to ponder over for the rest of the year and beyond. Will certainly make the next few years of box office a lot more interesting. And I'm sure producers for stuff like James Bond or Superman or Star Wars are trying to figure out how to make these dinosaurs "hip" with today's kids. -

Well yes, but that's not gonna be all that exciting for girls. I was listing movies that didn't have appeal to the Spider-Verse crowd. Kinda felt this way for a while, but Quorum metrics are pretty solid for an animated movie this far out and is already well ahead of Meg 2 in a lot of key demos: https://thequorum.com/ninja-turtles-and-meg-2-court-the-same-demo-whos-winning/ Also, while Rise of the TMNT show was a bit of a flop, the 2012 series is now over a decade old (that feels so weird to say lol. I was there when it premiered), so there's residual nostalgia there outside of the 80s kids. And both those shows are streaming on US Netflix. I don't think it's a big deal. Don't they have two? And I'm sure Incredibles 3, Brave 2, and Nemo 3 are all in consideration, among plenty others. We'll get tons of those NTCs for years to come.

Elemental I feel does well in having just enough wackiness and silliness for the kiddies, but also enough heart and quiet moments to make it fun for parents that it does well in translating to "yeah, worth a watch"-style WOM. The other big benefit of course is that this is a summer that doesn't have much of anything for kids, in particular girls and the 5-9 crowd who likely won't be all that enamored by Spider-Verse. So if you've already seen Little Mermaid, your options are pretty thin, especially with Barbie and Haunted Mansion being PG-13 movies (though I'm assuming they will still get a decent kid crowd? I think?). So with Ruby Gillman likely gone after two weeks, a lot of these kids don't have any other option until...Paw Patrol in September. It's really frustrating how few options there are for little kids tbh. Either way, that will at least make the bleeding not as bad for Pixar and perhaps a good morale booster that their films can still appeal to the youths on the big screen.

Reminder for certain users: @Human @Potiki Just wanted to tell you guys that the old MGM movies Warner gained ownership of and New Line movies pre-2008 like Lord of the Rings are excluded. You will have to replace the LOTR movies and Wizard of Oz with other movies. @Human @TalismanRing @Kalo Remember to PM me your list in order for it to be eligible. It's an important rule to not forget.

Because...I do like this place and most of its user base? Like yeah, I'll post cynical stuff and call out certain users, but I have very strong friendships with tons of people on this board and I like being here each day to talk about movies or read up on how movies are doing. Things are a little rough now, since I don't like talking about movies that bombed or are underperforming, but I would have left if I thought this place sucks. It doesn't. And most of my cynicism is towards users who post problematic stuff, people who are trying to troll and start fanboy war stuff, or just the state of the movie industry. And all of those are pretty fair game to call out IMO, even if some users may not like it. And if you want to know something, the reason why I wanted to become a mod was because I thought the forum was going down a bad road starting around 2017 or 2018 (basically around when Last Jedi came out) and I wanted to save a place I love from going under and becoming a nightmare for everybody else. If I didn't become a mod, we would have the Fanboy Wars thread still around, where people insulted others for liking the "wrong movies", Lordmandeep would try to troll DC or Star Wars fans 24/7, JB33 would complain about how everything is too woke, and every other forum user you like would run away from this place. So yeah, there was a time when I hated this place. And if the cards went the wrong way, I would have left. But between me being here and me being gone, we are all much better off with me here. Trust me.

😂 @Cap shared this with me (user in the tweet is a wrestling fan), and we both agreed this fit BOT to a tee every single time they get into these petty fights over these dumb kids movies. Can’t wait for the same crap next week with Indiana Jones. Probably 5 pages minimum people will whine about how Last Jedi ruined everything somehow (hint hint that we aren’t doing this next week. So don’t even try.)
