What'll be the Big Blockbuster ($300M+) Breakouts of 2018
cmbbox2390 replied to YM!'s topic in Box Office Discussion
I picked Black Panther and The Grinch. I think Aquaman ($285m) and Mary Poppins Returns ($260m) will get really close because of the holidays but not close enough. Ready Player One has potential if we see another trailer that sets off but I don't see a lot of enthusiasm for it yet. -

Girls Trip really didn't have a bad drop. It only dropped 38-39% from last Monday. Dunkirk was about 48-49% for comparisons sake.

I love that Girls Trip is doing great. People underestimated the hell out of this movie calling it “another Rough Night”. Girls Trip’s box office so far is more impressive than Dunkirk right now imho. A lot of people thought this was going do this weekend’s #s opening weekend! And the fact that it is getting rave reviews in the icing on the cake. -

Why are most of the Friday numbers a little different? What Friday numbers should we go by Rth or Deadline? Either way fantastic holds for Dunkirk and Girls Trip. It's good to see these original films doing so well this summer full of sequels including Baby Driver. That's a pretty good number for The Emoji Movie considering the terrible reviews it has gotten. Atomic Blonde is doing decent numbers as well. I think it'll have a John Wick type run. Spder-Man: Homecoming is starting to ease on the droppings which could help it get to over $315 million. Not much so with War for the Planet of the Apes, so disappointed in its run. What the hell happened! And Wonder Woman is still acting beastly with those incredible holds. I am so happy for her success and I can't wait to see her again in Justice League and her sequel. -

Weekend Prediction thread 5/10-5/12 Play the Derby
cmbbox2390 replied to Impact's topic in Box Office Derby
Dunkirk - With all great reviews it is getting and Nolan, it should cross at least $40 million. I can't wait to see the movie. Girls Trip - This is definitely a wildcard. I'll guess $25 million. And to people who say this is a movie "targeting African Americans". Are you saying this movie is only for black people? Why wouldn't the studio want to reach as why an audience as possible. It just doesn't make sense to me. In Valerian's case, I'm starting to think they should have promoted Rihanna's role a lot more. I think it would've done way more than what it is projected opening weekend. I'm going with $28 million. -
GIRLS TRIP | 07.21.17 | Universal | first trailer on page 1

It's still at 100% on RT with 10 reviews so far. I think no one either expected this or cared for the film at all. -
When will we get a 250M OW? What film could do it?
cmbbox2390 replied to Totem's topic in Box Office Discussion
I think The Lion King and SW Espisode IX has a shot, but I agree with DeeCee, it definitely be Disney's to lose. -

I'll tell you, I commend Universal. The studio has done a great job showcasing black talent and marketing the movies to a broader audience(i.e. Straight Outta Compton, F&TF, Get Out, Ride Along).
