I'm guessing Adams having two performances that got acclaim cancelled her out. Plus, after the #OscarsSoWhite controversy last year, nominating Ruth Negga was probably some sort of safety net.
I've never really cared about ATJ but him as an Oscar nominee was a fun thought. Oh well. We have Garrett Hedlund and Armie Hammer possibly in the hunt for Oscar nominations this year, so the "bland white dude that Hollywood has tried desperately and mostly failed to make happen finally having their day" dream is still alive.
By the way, Michael Shannon has now gotten two nominations with almost zero support. Same thing happened with Revolutionary Road 8 years ago. The power of God Shannon compels the Academy!
Remember when Fox Searchlight campaigned Dev Patel in Supporting for Slumdog Millionaire to try and nab him a nomination and they didn't buy the fraud and just shut him completely? Good times.
I was just about to type that. lol. All of that campaigning was for nothing. Then again, that campaigning probably came across Trying It even more than Oscar campaigns usually are.
She'll be back next year!
Oh wait, she only has Justice League this year. I completely forgot she was in that, but don't worry, I'm sure the movie will forget she's in it too.
