  1. Of course. But I'm still gonna let him stand there in his wrongness and enjoy his being wrong, as usual, lol.
  2. lol. Maybe it's another well-written child part like in The Nice Guys.
  3. Poor Aaron, first GG Supporting Actor winner in 40 years to miss an Oscar nom. Then again, he probably has too many mediocre performances he needs to atone for before that ever became a reality.
  4. I feel like Patel definitely isn't happening unless he wins SAG. Bridges' Oscar was only 7 years ago so probably not, and they're probably worried about what Shannon would say in his speech. Ali seems pretty safe, despite his little screen time.
  5. Ooh, interesting. Might be time to get in a second theatrical viewing!
  6. La La Land is winning. This isn't a contest. As I said in the other thread, there hasn't been a Best Picture lock this signed, sealed, and delivered since Slumdog Millionaire.
  7. Nominee reactions: http://www.hollywoodreporter.com/lists/2017-oscar-nominations-reactions-967941/item/2017-oscar-nom-reaction-lucas-hedges-968012 Lucas Hedges is by far the best one. Also, Michael Shannon's makes me secretly wish that he would win. Pretty obvious he would make an expletive-laced anti-Trump speech that would make all of the headlines the next day instead of La La Land's dominance.
  8. Depends on who wins SAG. If Affleck wins, it's his to lose.
  9. I love all 4 of those movies but I'm gonna go with Titanic as the best. Again, hit me with your best shot, Tolkienites.
  10. To be fair, Gold has poor reviews, so it probably wasn't gonna do well anywhere.
  11. Jada Pinkett Smith, probably the loudest voice of the #OscarsSoWhite controversy, has blessed the nominees with her thoughts of joy. Pack it up folks, apocalypse averted. http://variety.com/2017/film/news/oscar-nominations-2017-jada-pinkett-smith-oscars-so-white-1201968684/
  12. It's actually a good idea, tbh. No one cares about either of the Super Bowl openers (Rings and The Space Between Us), and the January 13/20 openers (except Split) will be losing theaters quickly, not mention the older releases will be pushed out.
  13. Arrival is coming back to 1,100 theaters this weekend ($100M should be locked now), and Lion will be expanding to 1,800+ theaters on February 3. http://deadline.com/2017/01/la-la-land-ticket-sales-jump-arrival-heads-back-into-theaters-1201893526/
  14. Fun fact: Octavia Spencer is the first African American female Oscar winner to get a nomination after winning. Woah.
  15. Gee, thanks for reminding me of that scene, Coolio.
  16. My guesses of the nominees I've seen: Affleck: When he tells the police about how his home burned down. Garfield: "I don't know how I'm going to live with myself if I don't stay true to what I believe." Gosling: "City of Stars." Washington: "What law is there sayin' I got to like you?" Portman: "There won't be another Camelot." Stone: "Audition" (although I'm hoping they go with "No, Jamal, YOU be trippin'." lol). Streep: "They may say I couldn't sing, but no one can say I didn't sing." Ali: "In moonlight, black boys are blue." Bridges: No clue, but I hope it's the scene with the surly old lady waitress with him and Gil Birmingham lol. Hedges: Panic attack by the refrigerator. Patel: Maybe the scene after the party where he and Rooney Mara argue? I'm stumped. Shannon: His scene in the diner with Gyllenhaal? I honestly have no clue. Davis: "I gave 18 years of my life to stand in the same spot as you!" Harris: Her final scene in rehab. Kidman: When she tells the story of her childhood to Patel and why she chose to adopt instead of having children. Spencer: "Just because that's the way it is doesn't make it right." Williams: Her final scene with Affleck.
  17. Where we can guess what their clips will be. Spoilers are allowed (since they have often picked spoilery clips from time to time), so beware. The Nominees: Best Actor Casey Affleck, Manchester by the Sea Andrew Garfield, Hacksaw Ridge Ryan Gosling, La La Land Viggo Mortensen, Captain Fantastic Denzel Washington, Fences Best Actress Isabelle Huppert, Elle Ruth Negga, Loving Natalie Portman, Jackie Emma Stone, La La Land Meryl Streep, Florence Foster Jenkins Best Supporting Actor Mahershala Ali, Moonlight Jeff Bridges, Hell or High Water Lucas Hedges, Manchester by the Sea Dev Patel, Lion Michael Shannon, Nocturnal Animals Best Supporting Actress Viola Davis, Fences Naomie Harris, Moonlight Nicole Kidman, Lion Octavia Spencer, Hidden Figures Michelle Williams, Manchester by the Sea
  18. Is this about to turn into a Lord of the Rings vs. La La Land debate? Because lord have mercy I want no part of it.
