I'm so excited to see how Blade Runner does in October. Gosling and Villeneuve coming off of La La Land and Arrival will no doubt help big time in overcoming its inherently niche appeal.
lol. Didn't you see the first one.
I might end up being dragged this for our Valentine's Day date this year. At least it's not coming out of my wallet.
I hope The Greatest Showman on Earth is also good and proves to be a big hit next Christmas to show that there is still an audience for a well-made musical but it's kinda hard to say when the people behind the camera are so unproven.
The movie truly has captured the public conscious in a way movies rarely do anymore. It's grabbing pretty much everyone except I guess the family audience (although there's nothing objectionable about it either, take out some of the profanity and it easily would've received a PG).
Didn't Tom Hanks stop to praise the movie while promoting Sully (and not even to give the filmmakers a pat on the back, but to say how much he really loved it)? That should've been the sign.
No joke: I don't think there will ever be a better nomination surprise when Extremely Loud & Incredibly Close got nominated for Best Picture and everyone in the press room screamed in horror. The fact it was the last movie announced as the ultimate "SURPRISE, BITCH!" made it even funnier.
Although Salma Hayek losing her shit when her BFF (Penelope Cruz) got nominated was a great moment too.
