  1. lol does anyone else see that Variety's page is covered in an FYC Deadpool ad? lmao good luck.
  2. I'm so excited to see who gets snubbed and who surprises us all.
  3. Already a thread (which should really be moved from On the Lot by now):
  4. It's Jordan Peele. Unlikely this will be played completely straight-faced.
  5. The whole movie is magic on film, basically. I've seen it twice and I'm likely gonna end up seeing it a third time in theaters (which honestly hasn't happened in at least 15 years).
  6. Lucas Hedges is the one who would be kicked out, not Patel.
  7. My audience had a completely WTF reaction to the trailer for this before Split over the weekend. I don't think it's gonna do too much, horror/comedy hybrids are always tough sells.
  8. The lowest grossing movie I've ever seen in theaters was 2006's Little Children ($5,463,019).
  9. I think Streep is locked in, tbh. The role his baity and her Golden Globes speech (and Trump's pathetic "rebuttal" by calling her overrated) no doubt cemented her as a favorite this year.
  10. Best Actress looks pretty set in stone, but if someone like Taraji were to crash the party, who would be kicked out? If Isabelle Huppert were to snubbed we'd probably hear about La Binoche going to Hollywood in an attempt to assault everyone.
  11. Call Me By Your Name is also getting stellar reactions out of Sundance (SPC has already picked up the distribution rights for the movie). I don't think BOT will survive if Garrett Hedlund and Armie Hammer get Oscar nominations in the same year. Taylor Kitsch, you might still have a chance at saving your career!
  12. I'm gonna be getting mine in either tomorrow or on Tuesday. Need to fill out all of the categories that I didn't already cover in my personal awards.
  13. I'll be compiling mine (along with the top 25 list tonight) so expect it soon!
  14. I guess it was a combination of the overwhelming feeling that it was too soon for a movie about this particular tragedy, which was really well-documented when it happened less than 4 years ago (and made a movie version of it seem redundant) and no awards buzz that made it a must-see. There's probably not much of an audience for anything resembling a "fuck yeah America!" movie right now given what's been happening in politics either.
  15. Another year passed by, another chapter closed in the history books for cinema. 2016 was one of the best years ever at the movies for me: set a new personal record for most movies from a single year seen in theaters (70), saw a ton of quality films across different genres as possible. I didn't get around to seeing everything that I wanted to before the deadlines, but hey, can't win 'em all. To see the list of all the movies from 2016 that I saw, check below: This year was tough for some of the categories (in particular, the acting ones) because there were some choices so good that it sucked to have to snub them. But with only a field of 5, there isn't room for everybody. Without further ado, here are my choices for the best in 2016! Best Movie La La Land And the Rest of My Top 10 2. Manchester by the Sea 3. 16. Everybody Wants Some!! failed to find much of an audience too despite Linklater coming off of Boyhood (although I guess there just wasn't much of a theater audience for an 80s college comedy in the 2010s). Sing Street could've found an audience had a studio other than Weinstein handled it. I imagine it would've made at least $20M in the hands of someone like Fox Searchlight.
  17. Resident Evil: The Final Chapter- $13M A Dog's Purpose- $8M Gold- $4M
  18. Weekend thoughts: What an incredible opening for Split. M. Night is back, indeed. xXx's opening is mediocre as expected, but hey, at least it didn't do nearly as awful as the much more timely State of the Union did in 2005. Hidden Figures is kicking ass. It could make a play for $150M at this point. La La Land took a bit of a hit but last weekend saw the effects of its Golden Globes glory, plus it also lost IMAX screens this weekend. $150M is still possible too. Good holds for Sing and Monster Trucks (too little too late there, though). Patriots Day is something of a miss. Poor The Founder, never stood a chance.
