  1. That really seems weak for BH6. How is it in comparison to Penguins of Madagascar?
  2. It's just shocking to me that there are so many people on a BO forum who haven't seen DH2.
  3. Hmm... so if it overperforms it still had a chance at 1B WW. Nice. Hope it hits the high end of expectations.
  4. I bet we'll see Interstellar on the list, one or more SH movies. American Sniper also deserves it's place in the Top. And also Mad Max
  5. But their numbers are so off. They say the source is Cinemagia, but when you look at Cinemagia, 300 made $1.7M+, Interstellar is at $1.6M+ and the yearly BO is way above that. Like WAY above. And yeah, TH3 is the highest grossing movie in the last 5 years, but only because 5 years ago Avatar got released. It is also the second highest grossing movie ever. They likely used this article from Cinemagia: http://www.cinemagia.ro/stiri/box-office-romania-2014-peste-10-milioane-de-bilete-vandute-27417/ All the datas there are in Euro/RON. Romanian BO made 41.9M euros this year and Hollywood Reporter just converted that into USD using the current exchange rate. But you can't do that. The exchange rate was MUCH better in the spring, summer and most of the fall. They did the same for the BO of those movies. The yearly BO is at $55.4M.
  6. Release update: 'American Sniper' was just pushed a week earlier and it will too open this weekend. So we have 'American Sniper', 'Unbroken', 'Mortdecai' this weekend, followed by 'The Imitation Game', 'The Wedding Ringer', 'Wild Card' next weekend, battling for basically the same audience. We also have 'Big Hero 6' this weekend, followed by 'Yellowbird' (cute animals animation; and after what 'The House of Magic' did last year I won't underestimate the power of cute animals again ) next week, followed by 'Spongebob' a week after. It's a clusterfuck.
  7. WEEKEND BOX OFFICE I lack the time to make the usual complete analysis, so here's the chart: Disappointing debuts from Blackhat (21.465 adm and $109K), The Water Diviner (11.797 tickets and $60K) and Birdman (7.720 adm and $39K). I don't really understand what happened. They has full shows all weekend. However, I followed just the main theatre chain, but even so... Either way, considering competition up ahead, they will likely fade fast. Taken 3 had a strong hold (-49%) and it lead again. It has much better WOM than the previous movie. Total stands at $734K and $1M is locked. Most of the Top 10 movies had very good drops, except from The Hobbit (-50%). It is probably losing screen like crazy. Still, total stands at an impressive $2.84M and it passed the 500.000 admissions border (507.311). Next week's openers: - Unbroken - Mortdecai - Big Hero 6 - Mommy 'Unbroken' looks to be doing pretty good in presales, so maybe a 30.000 adm opening. Maybe even a bit more. 'Mortdecai' still didn't add any shows after the sold out one it has in Bucharest. I don't get it. As for 'Big Hero 6', the main theatre chain is pushing it even harder than it pushed 'The Hobbit', which is crazy. I also see a lot of TV spots. It started having previews since this past Friday. Actually, it had so many shows it was more of a medium sized release than previews. Considering everything will be combined in it's OW, if it fails to touch 50.000 adm (in 10 days) it should be considered a major disappointment. 'Mommy' will likely flop.
  8. Just finished this. On the technical side it's a very good movie. Acting is top notch, the direction is quite good. I liked the way it was filmed, even though at some point it's starting to drag. But it gets over it. Now the social side. First, I wanna ask other people who saw it how the hell is Kyle portrayed as a hero? I mean, people keep saying he is, but his character is (a few scenes aside, mostly the end ones) dislikable from start to finish. From the sheep-wolf-dog laughable speech of his father, to the constant using of the word 'savages' to describe the people in the oriental region as a whole (yep, not just the terrorists; at some point, Kyle asks his friend where did he get the ring for his wife; he says that it's from there, from Iraq, and Kyle asks: "What, from the savages?" - entirely ironic considering the kind of acts described in the movie), to the "greatest country on earth" line and many others (some of them really felt like cliches - especially the training part in the beginning - dear God ), the only way you can feel about the main character is disturbed. Also, constant use of the word "evil" is rather funny. But I am glad that they showed the scenes from his childhood and so on because it makes an interesting case of how society (family, friends etc) shapes the individual; it shows you there might be some reason for which the guy ended up like he did. I was disappointed they didn't show the scene of his death. I knew before seeing the movie how he died and it would have been a nice cycle for the movie; poetic justice in a way. Overall, entertaining movie. C+ / B-
  9. I expect a very good film from a technical POV. Cooper is a great actor and I generally like Eastwood's work. I am much more interested in the socal aspect though. In fact, if it wasn't so controversial I wouldn't have watched it at all.
  10. Who do I contact? I don't know who deleated it. It just appears that a mod did, but which one?
  11. Why were my posts deleated?! They were VERY on-topic and they were not offensive. What's up with that?
  12. Fun fact, WB owns 4 of the Top 5 R-rated openers ever, including the biggest three: Matrix 2, Sniper, Hangover 2 and 300.
  13. Well, I honestly want it to beat both GotG and MJ. It would be nice to have an original movie on top for once.
  14. So far the movie is released only in the US (and Italy). Do you really expect most americans to denigrate their "war hero". It's just not logical. I mean, look at the enthusiastic response to the movie...
  15. People, there is no point to this debate. Why argue? Some will see him as a hero, some as a criminal. It is what it is.
