  1. Wouldn't it read "head of WDA" rather than "Head of Pixar" though?
  2. He didn't really work on either of them. I imagine it'll be worse on TS4
  3. I'd be pretty thrilled with that. Honestly even with those numbers it's already surpassed what I was expecting and I couldn't be happier.
  4. So, with 9m Friday and a reported 12m Sat (estimate so far) what do you think the Sunday drop will be?
  5. Honestly, if the media DID decide to focus their attention more on promoting how well Wonder is doing instead of on how poorly JL is doing, I don't see that as a bad thing. It'd help get more awareness out there for Wonder.
  6. I'm not sure that'd be the case. I don't personally care for a lot of Whedon's work (he's especially bad writing women or people who aren't white guys in general) but reviews were just as bad with Snyder's films and at the very least the positive aspect of most of the reviews is that the tone is lighter or more fun in these than in the previous two Snyder directed movies). The individual character personalities fact that it's 'fun' is apparently the only saving grace with most critics and likely will be with the audience too.
  7. That doesn't change that All Saints Day isn't the same as Dia de Muerto in most Catholic countries. The idea that Catholics would automatically embrace it just because it incorporates some aspects of a Catholic celebration (and it is functionally very different in both appearance and in other details) is not necessarily true. A lot of non-Mexican Christians I know are baffled by dia de muertos traditions, especially the altar and the idea of skulls as decoration. Obviously they don't consider it the same as their 'Christian' holidays. Which is not to say I don't hope Coco will do well. I hope like hell it does because the mexican-american population is high but media catering to us is low. I just don't know that some vague (to the masses) connection to a Catholic/Christian celebration will have any real boost. Tbh it probably gets more boost from people who confuse it with Halloween.
  8. I'm more surprised that there aren't more reviews for this, but I'm guessing a lot of focus is going to JL. Even so, four reviews for an animated film is barely scraping the surface. Even smaller animated films will easily get 20 or more.
  9. Yes. I don't disagree. That's the aspect that Mexicans bring to Dia de Muertos. It was celebrated at a different time of year and for a longer span before Catholicism came to Mexico.
  10. Dia de los Muertos is not a Christian event. It is the result of Catholicism trying to overwrite native Central American culture and the way that Mexicans adapted SOME of the aspects to themselves rather than simply taking them as the Spanish intended them to. In fact most Christians (and Catholics) in America who aren't of Mexican/Latino origin don't regard Dia de los Muertos fondly or even think about it at all.
  11. Twitter's not loving this idea. lol. It's sad when people know the name Illumination and automatically have bad associations for the quality of a movie.
  12. But please do keep in mind that Prince of Egypt is not specifically Christian. The creator and many of the creative team are Jewish and it reflects that. Jeffrey Katzenberg is Jewish and it was one of his motivations for the film. Also one of my Jewish friends watches this movie every passover. I think it's just safe to say that when it comes to movies based on the Old Testament, that most of them can be enjoyed as much (or more) by Jewish audiences. Worth noting that Muslims share most of this as well, but their rules against prophets being portrayed visually means this movie wouldn't be particularly popular in most Muslim countries.
  13. This is gonna benefit from the fact that there will be a lot of publications who are way too focused on JL to review before this comes out. Not that I think it will help this film much. I see better animation coming from a lot of direct to DVD/Direct to Netflix series recently. The days when big companies could easily get by with shoddy animation is over.
  14. I really hope this is the case. I'm betting this will have good legs, especially given the popularity of the book and the absence of a lot of family competition through the holiday season (the Star looks like it'll be pretty low and has a premise similar to a lot of the TV holiday fare that plays every year, Coco has good reviews but even if it makes a lot, I don't think it'll be enough to hold over family audiences the entire season and Ferdinand... not sure... the later trailers aren't very good and I haven't been hearing a lot of buzz about it). I think Wonder will leg it out for a while, but I'm really hoping for a 20M+ OW. It might get a boost from JL overrun.
  15. Ugh. Not a fan of their studio choice. If they're going for appealing characters and a good story there's many better options (including Dreamworks which is owned by Comcast as well). But at least it can't be as bad as the Live Action one...
  16. Can't "take it for granted" if you're from another religion. You have to deal with it being shoved in your face for two months regardless of whether or not you believe in it.
  17. Because there's NOTHING that reminds us of this story ever. Because we know how much most Christmas songs on the radio aren't about pretty much this. It's not like we can go out in public and find decorations of baby Jesus. It's not like most Christmas films for kids ever touch on this theme.
  18. Did his time? He got off easy. If he hadn't been rich and in Hollywood he wouldn't be able to get a job anymore. Just because people in Hollywood are getting away with things now (and shouldn't be) doesn't mean that someone should be let off the hook for doing that. It's not like it was a one-time thing for him. They had a ton of evidence. And if he hadn't been caught and 'did his time', he would probably still be doing it.
  19. WAG has good solid storytelling behind them. All of their movies have been pretty solid, though the fact that LEGO Batman and Ninjago are both derivative might not have helped them. They are terrible at marketing though, at least with their animated films. I think they're too used to a lot of their adult fare (especially stuff like DC or HP) basically being sold to an already established audience. They still have to try with LEGO since most LEGO fans aren't into LEGO to watch movies... they're in it to build.
