it was directed by the same guy who directed Snatched. That's not a great precedent. Charlize Theron has not had a hit in her life. I don't see why it would be a "nice sized hit"? It also doesnt inspire confidence that the studio moved it to be slaughtered by Avengers. -

yes that's a huge amount. although it does happen. Your Name grossed $250M as well only two years after frozen. there have been other animated films that do $200M in japan.

i just looked at wikpiedia to count and yes there are 4 female roles in the main cast. not 5. and I just found out Annette Bening is in this!!

yeah the cultural impact of Frozen is way bigger than things like Avengers even though at the box office the avengers obviously make a lot more money and sell more tickets. but the impact on average people outside of the movies respective audiences, is way bigger fro mFrozen.

Nah, Charlize is box office poison. Won't happen. I was looking forward to this before I saw the trailer, now definitely won't see it 😕 I will say that teenage actress version of charlize looks quite nice tho. that's the only thing I liked in the trailer. and the cGI air force one made me laugh.

The Jungle Book, It, Fast and Furious 7, Jurassic World, Secret Life of Pets, 50 Shades, I would say these are all good recent examples of films that already had big positive expectations for opening weekend but still broke out further and went well beyond those predictions.

have you seen the costume...? with the fake muscles and the comedy and kid stuff, it looks like a TV show. Its the only superhero film I'm looking forward to this year but I am not expecting it to do huge numbers at box office. -

I think that @FilmBuff post is quite reasonable. At the time of posting there was no box office data to suggest the 600M run that it ended up having.

Not really comparable since those films were all expected to open that high anyway... Really up until JW opening day there was no expectation remotely close to what it did.

For sure. From the Thursday numbers estimates, the estimates just got higher and higher and higher until it smashed the opening record. Awesome weekend thread.

Since when is "okay" hating?? It's still a positive view of the movie. It's a C. 3 stars. A thumbs up. Not everything that is less than loving adoration, needs to be seen as negative!
