  1. Yes, 3D has pretty much died, but on the other hand IMAX and other large formats have only really taken off since after Avatar. In 2009 it broke the record for highest grossing IMAX film, when there were 200 IMAX venues. There are now 1000 IMAX venues apparently.
  2. Can't have been that bright if its been observed.
  3. Not sure if you are being serious but do you understand what the mean average actually is? The average person has 1.9 legs and yet 99% of people have 2 legs, etc
  4. Daisy Ridley was very wooden in Force Awakens and one of the things I disliked most about it, but shes much stronger in Last Jedi and genuinely impressed me by how much she's improved her acting.
  5. what makes you think Hans parents aren't as strange as him?
  6. Local cinema here has a studio ghibli season every single year where they do one each week. People love those movies. I remember seeing that in France with my school exchange, of course in France it's got a French dub so my exchange kid made sure it was a subtitled screening that we went to. Naturally the subtitles were in French... I don't think I missed out on much though tbh.
  7. yes and Rey is very clearly the lead, not "one of the three leads" which TFA tried to convince us. But i think if the Finn stuff had worked people wouldn't mind his smaller role.
  8. What are people expecting PR2 to open to? Also, does anyone know whatever happened to boxofficechina.com ? For a while I found it really useful, provided daily updates on China box office, but it stopped about a year ago. Is there anywhere in English that I can see daily box office figures?
  9. the recent parody poster thing has gotten really old, really quickly. and we all have Spongebob to blame, this is the one that started it.
  10. I think people felt he was sidelined because yes he got his own subplot, villain, and love interest all to himself... but the subplot was shit, the villain was shit, and the love interest was shit.
  11. Only time people have ever audibly cheered in a cinema is the times I've seen The Room.
  12. ya, think so. I mean I'm happy for anyone who really connects to a movie for any reason, I don't need to agree, but none of what you guys have been so excited about came across in my screening. The cinema was fairly busy but don't think there were any non white people in it.
  13. yep, movie looked amazing. and you haven't even got anything of the red sand! so much to love on a visual level.
  14. This started out strong, I liked the mythology and world building that it was writing and it felt fresh with the aesthetic. But.. that's about it. Characters have very strange and inconsistent actions, the fight sequences are flat out awful, and the CGI for alot of it is crap. I was really annoyed when Klaw died, he was the only person I enjoyed in the movie and he should have been the main villain or at least not be killed off as I'd like to see him again. He's actually scary and funny. There are too many things that happen for no reason other than to move the plot along. Character motives are just illogical. I got very bored about half way through and briefly fell asleep.
  15. saw Black Panther. what the hell was all that fuss all about. just the same (surprise surprise) as every other marvel movies. had a quick nap towards the end and was pretty bored throughout. americans really get this excited over a crap movie just because it has some melanin? jeez.
  16. yeah I know, didn't figure that the secret screening at my local would be the same.
  17. It did really well, do bear in mind though that a low production budget doesn't mean they cheaped out on marketing, I imagine it had similar marketing budget to other big movies. Wonder if Get Out was more profitable than Split or vice versa.
  18. also chinese productions seem to have better screen holds and dont drop as sharply. I assumed it was considered a CHinese production but not sure.
  19. There was a secret screening at the same time at my cinema, I thought I was being smart by spending the £5 entry to see RPO in 2D rather than the free unlimited version in 3D only. Instead I got love simon. Sad times
  20. Hm, I filled in 100 rows on an Excel spreadsheet so must have missed some out when I typed them into the forum. Either way I did what I said I would do Incredibles is not in the top 100 animated movies
  21. I'm quite surprised if it will only do 150M. Really thought it would jump up from the first one especially as it's been 5 years. Hope it does more but if its presales are behind Black Panther that speaks for itself. Also if it only does 150M in China that conclusively kills this franchise. On the other hand, this Scott Mendelsohn piece makes a good point that it could spark more sequels from failed first movies - https://www.forbes.com/sites/scottmendelson/2018/03/15/box-office-pacific-rim-uprising-is-a-test-case-for-questionable-sequels/#1a7d769251f1
  22. Good for you, word of caution though, if you have seen someone once then maybe try to chill a bit and not get quite so excited and happy. keep some control of yourself, promise you it is worth it.
  23. Jungle Book > Gravity On that note, Jungle Book is more sci-fi than Gravity is.
