1. Weekly figures. Nothing remarkable ... no idea why M7 is doing so poorly, compared with other Latin American markets. Battle is open for the weekend crown: Stork vs Frida vs Blair vs Peregrine vs Horizon. The peculiar kids are getting the highest number of screens.
2. Dory underperformed in Mexico, with a lower gross in lc than Inside Out and lower admissions than Pets. Even Monster University earned more and sold more tickets! Similar to other markets like Italy, it opened great and then deflated. Add to the mix the painfully low ER, and voila, a lukewarm sub-$30M gross. Still think it will reach $1B WW.
3. Very low opening for an animated movie, that Cigüeña. Is it one of the lowest OW of the year?
4. Pets is certainly the revelation of the year! May give the ogre and the fish a flight.
5. Meanwhile ... OS actual went up again and it's now the bigger chunk. $970M WW barrier crossed. Domestic: $484,192,130 49.9% + Foreign: $485,900,704 50.1% = Worldwide: $970,092,834
6. Weekend official figures. Stork opened at #1, with about the same gross in lc as other similar "low-tier" animated movies. No manches Frida was a close second and should keep its momentum for a while. The other debuts (Bastille, Magnificent 7, Light Between Oceans) were lackluster, none of them reaching $500K. The big story, however, is Pete's Dragon massive 70% drop, the second steepest of the year for a 2nd weekend, after Warcraft.
7. Weekend estimates (Screendaily, Comscore): Animated movies usually open on top here (unless they are really, really boring or cheap looking) and Storks is not the exception, with $2.4M. No Manches Frida reaches a $6.5M total after a $1.8M weekend. Don't Breathe: $705K second weekend for a $2.4M total.
8. Screendaily: Ahead of its release in Italy next weekend, Ben-Hur travelled to another $3.3m from its 40 markets for $60.2m to date. Paramount-MGM’s remake posted a $1.6m second weekend in South Korea for $8.8m and added $467k in France for $3m after three weeks in play. It opens in China on Oct 10.

10. $480.1m OS up to Thursday. It may need its last markets (Germany and Austria) to outgross DOM's $484.1M ... *scratches head*
11. Numbers up to Thursday. No Manches Frida with a decent hold, the rest are just meh. It should be a close battle with Storks for the weekend's crown. Other openers are Magnificent 7, Bastille and a local movie about the 1985 Earthquake in Mexico City.
12. Surprised on how well The Mechanic has been received in Latin America! Barely any drop in Colombia.
13. Weekend official numbers. For the first time in a long time, the Top 4 are new entries! No manches Frida (a remake of the German comedy Fack Ju Goethe) easily grabs the #1 spot, with the best OW for a local movie since Que culpa tiene el niño earlier this year. Pete's Dragon has a solid opening, cementing Disney's grasp on the family market. Don't Breathe is #3, not sure if it'll be able to replicate Lights Out success. Then, at 4, it's Bridget Jones's Baby, best opener in an otherwise unremarkable franchise in this market. In the holdovers, STB deflates and somehow SS and SLOP keep selling tickets in their 7th and 8th week. Here's the Top 10 so far of the year. Don't expect any changes soon. 01 725,755,205 Captain America 3: Civil War 02 629,616,949 Batman v Superman 03 511,737,726 Suicide Squad 04 458,304,971 Finding Dory 05 427,515,447 The Jungle Book 06 420,488,778 Secret Life of Pets 07 417,145,393 Ice Age: Collision Course 08 379,250,901 The Conjuring 2 09 347,000,000 Deadpool <- estimate 10 337,519,098 X-Men: Apocalypse
14. I know who are not going to be called... @ERCboxoffice Sony's ill-fated GHOSTBUSTERS reboot finally limped past $100M+ overseas this weekend, with only two markets hitting $10M+, UK & Japan.
15. That's almost $6.2M (depending on which ER Disney uses) and a 1:10 ratio from OD. Great opening.
16. Deadline - Inhaling $7.2M in 33 total markets, Sony’s horror winner has taken the offshore cume to $31.7M. There were three new plays this frame including Mexico with $1.2M on 945 screens — triple the opening of Unfriended and 150% ahead of The Visit. Germany was down just 2% for a total $2.6M; the UK has cumed $2.9M; and Brazil is at $2.4M. Auds held their breath in Latin America with minimal dips (Central America -8%, Colombia -15%, Uruguay -18%, Ecuador -21%, Argentina -36%, and Chile -38%). France and Korea are next among majors, opening October 5 and 6, respectively. Comscore reports a global total of $107,028,781.
17. Deadline - In its second weekend of release, Sully grossed an estimated $7m from its 44 territories for an early $23.4m. Hong Kong opened to a strong chart-topping $773k from its 46 screens ahead of local blockbuster S Storm, while it fell only 29% in Australia with a $1.4m second weekend for $4.7m. Worldwide, Sully took $3.1m from 529 IMAX locations for $10m. It opens in Japan next weekend. Comscore reports a $93.9M WW total.
