  1. Also worth mentioning, the script is very commercial, and I don't think the teaser portrayed that. I don't see any reason why this won't make 100m. His last two films got their comfortably and I think QT awareness is at a high.
  2. lol. That hella jump literally could have just been a large group going when it is making $923 though.
  3. Seeing it how it is intended to see will definitely help, but there is only so much the format can do. I probably sound like a huge QT adversary after the past few days. I'm so not lol. I'm shocked JJL doesn't have a single line in this trailer after how much Mr. Tarantino hyped her up.
  4. The snow stuff looks pretty, but it is snow. Snow cascading from the sky always looks pretty. But, in my opinion, the stuff inside is unexceptional and that is where the 70mm really should of worked its magic. Joy, The Revenant, Sicario and The Son of Saul all look really gorgeous. I wouldn't be surprised if this doesn't gain any award traction this season.
  5. I find it strange Spielberg wasn't given a gala. Send Carol to TIFF pleaaaaaaaaase.
  6. Of course it would play in Austin. He lives here. Maybe he'll come and say some words before a screening. He is treating this film with a lot of passion.
  7. With all the hype about 70mm I was really expecting gorgeous footage and great cinematography. Instead it looks bland and dark. This definitely looks more like a commercial play, but if Tarantino's name wasn't attached to this, no one would be excited.
  8. It is coming to Austin? What theater? I'll be in Austin in December. This trailer doesn't really get me excited. I'll see it, of course, but eh.
  9. I was just thinking about this movie. It is a film that I actually like more and more when I think back on seeing it. Something that I thought was ingenious was how ironic the soundtrack was. All of the song lyrics were either satirizing the situations or somehow capturing the feeling but saying the exact opposite of what was happening in the plot. I will have to watch again to get examples, but I thought it was so cleverly done. The shot of Shasta laying across Doc as they are sleeping together, with the completely still camera is so subtly sexy and just a really memorable PTA moment. Damn. PTA is incredible. This will never beat The Master for me, as I think that might be one of the best movies ever, but it is so comparable to his other works in sheet quality. Just a fun ride that is exhausting and rewarding. Needs more than one view, so I'm renting it real soon.
  10. The worst crowd I've ever been in was when I saw Inherent Vice the week it got its wide release. I felt like the advertisement was very consistent with the tone of the movie, yet in the 10% filled theater like four couples left. That movie is down right hilarious and I don't think a single person enjoyed it in the theater. :(
  11. Have you gotten to see this trailer since you work at a theater? I'm not sure how that works lol.
  12. American Ultra has a lot of things going for it: -Kristin Stewart and Jesse Eisenberg are critical darlings. -It doesn't look like it is trying to please everyone at all. -It is a new concept. -R Rated action movies and stoner-y movies have been pretty well recieved lately. I'm all for the Stewassance, so maybe I'm grasping. I mean, I stanned for Uncle because of Thinking Man's Blake Lively and it is a little more muted than I was hoping for. :/
  13. Agreed. I'm up for a challenge and definitely keeping my options open. I'm studying journalism and have a minor in film and media studies. It is better than my previous major: oboe performance.
  14. PAY ME FOR MY OPINIONS. THEY ARE GOOD. But, in all serious, I think critics get a bad wrap on here because no one really understand their purpose and necessity in the film community. Their jobs are to bring a new light to the movie and expand on the themes and maybe help bring a higher understanding to the more hidden elements. I mean, that's their job in theory. Sometimes movies are so that's not even possible.
  15. I think he used a collage of genres well in the Kill Bill movies, and that's probably what elevates them from B or B- to B+s for me. He mashes up the western, with eastern cinema and spaghetti western and it is all very gratifying for a cinephile. I'm not sure I buy into this idea that he spends equal time on everything though. The pacing of his films are rocky and he definitely has some skills he excels at over others. Maybe he isn't overrated, persay. It is just other auteur directors who make unique films and real pieces of art don't get enough credence which makes him seem over exposed. Shrug emoji if there were one.
  16. lol I'm studying to be a film critic so read my shit homies :) :)
  17. Sure. I liked it but wasn't blown away. You can't argue with one of the best recieved movies since Pan's Labrynth though. It probably merits another viewing. My point was that this is more similar to Gravity than Interstellar.
  18. Gravity was technically sound and at least a cohesive story. Everyone needs to hop off Nolan. I hate this forum.
  19. All I know is Interstellar didn't set a very high bar and I have no idea why such a mediocre movie gets used as the standard. If anything, make the Gravity comparison.
  20. Yeah. Critics don't have an agenda and I am sure they would want to reward a stylish espionage movie...
