  1. San Andreas' marketing was ridiculously manipulative too. I think it is just part of the genre. But Say Something is almost hilariously fitting, yet still effective.
  2. I really want this to be good, but it screened some many times to muted results. If the trailer is good it can make a moderate amount of money. Huge star power and pretty appealing for the middle aged crowd I would think.
  3. It looks bad, but that didn't stop me from getting choked up at the end of the trailer. Love Binoche. <3
  4. A lot of people don't like her because a) her music is terrible and she runs her mouth about stupid shit like saying how she tried to be anorexic but it was too hard. And she disguises all of this in some fake feminism message that is more harmful than good.
  5. I've read the script and became really interested in this project. The script has a lot of visual to narrative juxtaposition which I love, and I haven't had any problems with Valee's films. That being said, the third act is loud as hell and has a lot going on, even in an undeserved way. Everyone thought this would be Jake's Oscar vehicle but after testing and them pushing it back to 2016 I feel like most lost hope in this being a really fantastic Oscar worthy movie. That being said, my interest in the project is still huge and I am excited to see the premiere. Now, all of that being said, I don't think this is like a test run to see how an audience recievies it. It would be embarrassing and very damaging for the studio to slate a movie for 2015, move it to 2016 and then bring it back to 2015 after a warm reception at a festival. TIFF's Openig and Closing night galas have always been messy, especially Opening night. I mean last year was The Judge, which was pretty terrible. I'm not confident we should see this placement as a sign of quality, but rather star power and a Canadian director. So, firmly sitting at about a <1% chance of this getting an award friendly position. Hopefully I'm wrong and it is Valee's magnum opus.
  6. September 10-20. They are going to release about 200 more titles in clusters in every Tuesday from here until mid August.
  7. If I am here, it is for Alicia Vikander. She is the it girl right now and I love it.
  8. I voted Her because ScarJo got award traction and didn't have a second in front of the camera which is memorable on its own. Furthermore, I feel like we will all look back on Phoenix's work in the future as a sort of masterclass in acting. Maybe same for Rooney too! American Hustle because... well, it was the first movie I ever saw that I really thought about the work that goes into make a movie. I will always remember it, and it is still one of my favorites from the decade. I think once people can separate DOR from AMPAS his work can be viewed in a more holistic and artistic way. And Frozen. Duh. Wolf of Wall Street I think will always be placed in the middle of Scorsese's work. It will be remembered as a film in the arsenal of the greatest film directors of his era, I suppose.
  9. I just hope we get an Our Brand is Crisis trailer soon. I wonder how they are going to sell this, because I think it could have commercial appeal especially with Bullock being in lead.
  10. I have a feel Joy has got to be wrapping up towards the end of August. Maybe a secret screening? Telluride looks like it is going to have a lot of premiers and AFI could be huge too with The Revenant, Hateful Eight, Joy, Concussion and The Good Dinosaur being possibilities. Maybe even Hail, Cesar! I will be there most of that week. Suffeagette's European premier is the London Festival which is after Tell and TIFF. So, I guess that means it has to go to Telluride?

  12. For some reason "I haven't done coke in 11 years." "I don't think anyone has." killed me.
  13. Agreed! As far as premieres and star power this first list is sort of lacking. But, when it comes to quality, worldly films I think this might be one of the strongest TIFF fests to date. My top ten most anticipated are full of Cannes selections, which is sort of surprising. Curious about no Suffragette, makes me question the quality. Also, I bet TWC comes and takes a few of those last six gala spots with Tulip Fever and maybe Adam Jones? I am surprised and disappointed about Carol too. Ultimately hoping for something like Joy, The Hateful Eight, A Bigger Splash or Our Brand Is Crisis to be added on. I bet one of them does.
  14. Nope. Has to have a week-long run in LA or New York before the end of the year for it to be eligible. If it gets really great reviews out of Toronto (it won't) they may be tempted to push the release date in 2015.
  15. Hey guys! The first handful of movies released today, you can see the list http://blogs.indiewire.com/theplaylist/tiff-programs-beasts-of-no-nation-the-danish-girl-the-martian-demolition-and-more-20150728 I am so excited for the festival and think my Top 3 most anticipated right now are Demolition, Danish Girl and Beasts of No Nation. Is anyone else attending? Any surprises? I see a few notable exclusions including no Weinstein pictures.
  16. The movie is done. Some rumors it premiers at TIFF, but could also be in contention for Sundance.
  17. So, this is playing as the Centerpiece for NYFF, BUT rumor has it that they ditched the world premiere aspect and it will be premiering at a September festival. Speculation is TIFF That NYFF centerpiece spot over the past handful of years has been sort of disastrous. Hoping for the best.
  18. I found him fascinating in Palo Alto, even if it isn't an essay on whatever the best acting is. He has good screen presence and I get the idea he is a cool guy.
  19. How was Nat Wolff? I want him to be a star because I think he is so hot in like a normal person way.
