  1. Poor choice of words, Sir Ridley. Talking about "going in the back door" when referencing Giger's phallic aliens is quite disturbing... Yeah, I went there.
  2. Warners may sell a lot of the regular MAX Blu-rays and DVDs, but they won't sell very many of those US steelbooks, considering the demand far exceeded the supply, so much so that most Best Buy stores only had 1-5 on hand opening morning...
  3. This is clearly FOX's decision, they probably feel that more revenue can be generated by tying it properly into the franchise via branding, no matter how good the film turns out, or how much it has to do inherently with the original ALIEN universe.
  4. This movie takes place in the music world...there's got to be a cameo from Bolton, right? Maybe in his Jack Sparrow getup? ;-)
  5. Yikes...well, now we know why it was delayed from Summer. Based on the reviews, I expect this property to be put back on the shelves for another decade or more...unless it blows up in international receipts. I still haven't gotten round to seeing the 2003 film.
  6. This is still in the "I'll believe it when I see it" category for me. Lots of "talk" about it, but no concrete evidence that it's definitely, actually, physically going ahead in any immediate upcoming time-frame. Remember what happened to the Tron sequel? And yes, I think Scott is clearly using his ego and pull with FOX to get his own project in production first, before Blomkamp's. He's probably jealous that Blomkamp apparently came up with more of a "go" idea (that also attracted Weaver right away) for the universe than anything he could...
  7. Apparently it's not just reluctance, it's a legal issue. They literally can't. Neither can Skydance/Bad Robot.
  8. So, uhh...which thread in this forum isn't infested with True Detective fascination gifs?
  9. This is where I have to take issue with ya... Changing one of the fundamental character biology is not a problem...if the movie handles it well. The problems here stem from the fact that (once people have finally seen it) the released film is simply a mess creatively and narratively, and doesn't properly integrate any understandable relationships...therefore the "fact" of changing the backstory of the characters "comes off" as "PC" and haphazard when it could have been something much more organic, understandable, relevant, realizable, even...gasp...meaningful. No one wants to make a bad movie...but FOX has done a good job of making people think they surely tried.
  10. “This turned into a nightmare for Fox,” said Jeff Bock, an analyst with Exhibitor Relations. “Everything that could go wrong went wrong and the whole thing fell apart.” “The confluence of clearly the decidedly negative reviews with the combination of social media did not help the cause,” said Fox distribution chief Chris Aronson. He was not willing to write off the “Fantastic Four” series yet, but stressed that the studio would be engaged in a rigorous postmortem about the film’s failure. The foursome’s future might be as supporting players in other comicbook characters’ movies. “We have a lot to look forward to in our comicbook character universe,” said Aronson. “We may find different ways to feature these characters in the future, but it’s early and we’ll have to see what form that takes.” The film’s opening weekend crowd was 60% male and 51% under the age of 25. https://variety.com/2015/film/news/fantastic-four-box-office-bomb-1201566230/ The language has gone from "fizzled" to "flops" back to "bombed." ...What about FF guest starring in the Deadpool sequel? ;-)
  11. Again, I'll say...I called a $15-25 mil. OW a week or so ago. A few people laughed... ;-) Also, so-called "tracking" has been *way* off this Summer. Unfortunately, we'll have to resort to calling it "tranking" now for predicting flops...
  12. The Gift apparently cost $7.5 million, including P&A. And good WOM is already spreading. Amazing how so much can be wasted on creative/executive misfires like FF just for studio hubris.
  13. You'd think they'd want to go for a different title, at least, just to separate themselves from the Hansel & Gretel debacle a few years back. But this looks too much like that, as well as Seventh Son...and Sorcerer's Apprentice.
  14. As in, Serkis/Jackson's Kong is from an alternate universe and he will meet up with the Skull Island Kong in the sequel, right? ;-)
  15. Sounds like Crowe talks fizzled out quickly...I get the feeling this may be a script thing... And sure, why not add SLJ? This'll be his "Nick Fury" money for the year...
  16. I was more interested in this when it was going to star Keanu Reeves and I think Rachel McAdams.
  17. This will not stay in Feb...unless they film it and turns out like the FF reboot. I wonder if they have a story that they think spans two films? And they must be working on deals for Smith and Lawrence as we speak.
  18. Agreed. I think this will go ahead quicker than people think. These Jack Reacher films aren't three figures like the M:I franchise. It's a much smaller plate...or at least the first one was. What's Cruise have booked in the fall, anything?
  19. They tried that with Renner. He's lacking charisma. And it almost always feels contrived when they try that kind stuff. I see Cruise taking this momentum as far as he can, one or two more. My bet is when he's done, Paramount fully reboots...or basically does, and has Cruise cameo as a mentor.
  20. "Gangbusters" feels inadequate to describe how well this film is doing...wow. Me, personally, 4:30pm showing this afternoon, theatre was 70% full, crowd reacted well, biggest jump being
