  1. More than likely they're not showing trailers with the 70mm IMAX showings because the trailers would be digital. They'd have to switch from that to film which might be a pain for theaters.
  2. The guy entered the theater through the exit door. Aren't most exit doors for movie theaters locked from the outside? All the witnesses say they didn't notice anything until he threw the smoke bomb, so it's not like he shot his way through the door.
  3. This will have an impact, but nothing huge. Either way it doesn't matter. I'm just glad they caught the guy. Usually the shooter commits suicide in cases like this, but this time we'll be able to hear him talk or hear police tell us what he said about why he did it, etc. Then again, there could be no motive, which makes it frightening beyond belief.
  4. No evidence of a 2nd shooter. Stop saying/assuming there is.
  5. So the guy was a member of the audience? Wow. For some reason I had assumed he just waltzed in.
  6. The problem is that even native 3D is no longer a guarantee. If visionary filmmakers like Scorsese, Cameron, and Scott are helming, sure, 3D is great. But Pirates 4, ASM, and others were shot in the format and the 3D was still underwhelming.
  7. This won't go anywhere. Theaters aren't going to spend the money to install the smell machines in every row and moviegoers certainly aren't going to spend even more money for something they don't care about (believe me, audiences don't give a shit about smell-o-vision).
  8. Ted is the best comedy of the year. Better than 21 Jump Street. Nothing comes close to those two.
  9. Entirely different thing and you know it. That's like Rick Santorum saying "if you support gay marriage that must mean you support beastiality too." The Dark Knight Rises is the second sequel in a franchise that HAD to be rebooted, it's part of a trilogy that so far has transcended the superhero genre and pulled a complete 180 from what Burton and Schumacher were doing in the 90's. What Webb did with Spider-man (a franchise that didn't earn the right to reboot yet) isn't that different from Raimi's work, and judging from the film he appears content to conform to the usual Spider-man movie cliches (I say "Spider-man movie cliches" because it seems like they have a strict formula for them now).
  10. Can't speak for anyone else, but I personally had the same attitude towards POTC4. And even though it's a worse movie, POTC4 is still somehow more original than ASM.
  11. Of course that's not how it works. But it wouldn't hurt for an unnecessary and mediocre reboot/remake to fail either. Baby steps, people, baby steps...it happened once before (the transition between the 60's and 70's from cliched, traditional studio pictures to more risk-taking endeavors), it could happen again.
  12. Those who dislike ASM want it to fail because if it's deemed a success, it'll just encourage even more unorginality in Hollywood, which is the last thing the industry needs.
  13. Spider-man grew up in the comics, he can grow up in the movies too. To keep Spider-man a teenager forever is to make the character stagnant. It's beyond stupid as far as good filmmaking is concerned.
  14. If they only make Spider-man movies where Peter is a teenager than the character will never grow on screen, and that's just boring. Look at what Nolan's doing with Batman. I want a definitive beginning, middle, and end to Peter's life story (doesn't mean he has to die or anything). Frankly I think it'd be cool to see a Spider-man movie with Peter Parker in his 30s, married, working as a science teacher/professor, and juggling family life with his life as Spider-man.
  15. Eh, it probably would've made 95-105m if it opened on a 3-day weekend.
  16. Also, Thor, Captain America, and Star Trek had budgets of no more than 150m.
  17. It was predicted to make mid-200s, which is only a disappointment for the studio financially, but a failure for a Spider-man movie.
  18. Are you delusional? 50-55% drops happen for superhero movies all the time, even those with great WOM, which ASM does not have.
  19. You would be wrong, kiddo. 5/6-day openings enable more people to see a movie in a shorter amount of time. A 50-55% second weekend drop is absolutely reasonable for this. It's par the course for this genre.
  20. Sure, if it increases well on Sat. But Nikki's multipliers are always off, and I don't see much of an increase if at all.
  21. 6-day total: 135m2nd wknd: 26m (Ice Age)3rd wknd: 12m (TDKR)4th wknd: 7m...and so onThis eventually comes out to 250-255m. Not a complete flop but surely a disappointment, reboot or not. Sony did not give ASM a 230m production budget with the hope of making only 250-260m in the U.S.
