  1. It seems like it's popular on the Chinese video sites, though.
  2. I think $700 million worldwide is a modest estimate at this point.
  3. Damn, if only I hadn't overestimated Zootopia and underestimated London Has Fallen. Maybe then I wouldn't be in last place.
  4. Can people on the ground tell me why Zootopia looks like a huge success in China? I could guess for myself, but that would be patronizing and ignorant. Those are two qualities this movie tells us to avoid, actually.
  5. Oooh. I think I might have to join a club. The less than 27% drop club. I'll still wait until tomorrow to be sure.
  6. Another thing I noticed. I eavesdropped on a certain conversation in the audience. Dad: How did you like it? 12-year-old daughter: It was good. 9-year-old son: Good. Dad: It was awesome! I think this movie's success will be driven by adults telling other adults about it.
  7. Right now, I don't just implore you to see Zootopia. I implore you to see it MULTIPLE TIMES. It's honestly fucking insane. One screening I thought "Gosh, this movie is gritty and dark and the humor is deservedly mean-spirited," and the next I thought "What a hilarious and uplifting movie!". And even scarier than that, I managed to have the complete opposite opinion on Nick and Judy. One time I thought "They're strictly like brother and sister" and now I think "OMG, they should hook up and have tons of babies!" I guess it's like life itself. Your perspective changes as you experience more.
  8. I'm guessing it won't end up with a surprise villain. In fact, from its synopsis, Moana might not even have a villain at all.
  9. Four movies in a row. Wreck it Ralph, Frozen, Big Hero 6 and Zootopia. Hell, in the first three, Alan Tudyk plays the red herring. I'm glad he got a comic relief part in Zootopia. I wonder how Moana can possibly have a surprise villain.
  10. This has to be intentional. Edit: Shit, I meant to post this in in the main thread.
  11. I'm not making a prediction until I see Monday's Zootopia total. If it's higher than expected, the movie might be catching on with adult audiences.
  12. Of course, you do realize that a part of the forgiveness is that he saw how devastated she was. And she deserved to feel miserable, honestly.
  13. That's actually a great point. The scene seems better to me now.
  14. OK, but do you agree that his forgiveness was a bit sudden? Maybe he could have slowly warmed back up to her.
  15. You know, another quote from this movie is "Life isn't as simple as a bumper sticker." You might want forgiveness, but what Judy said was extremely fucked up, especially after hearing Nick's story of being bullied. The images of the animals in the muzzles is the straw that breaks the camel's back. Also, I think it's kind of more fitting. I think it's a bit odd that Nick turns on a dime from being pissed off at Judy to being his old self again. It's clever how they do the reversal, though.
  16. I also found a blog post that suggests that Judy did not deserve Nick's forgiveness: https://momandcultured.wordpress.com/2016/03/06/zootopia-disney-hired-writers-with-big-balls-to-help-explaining-racism-sexism/ After all, Judy says, "After we're done, you can hate me." Wouldn't it be such a gonadsy move to actually go that route? Have them save the day, but not be together?
  17. I found this commentary that really puts racial politics in context for Zootopia: http://fusion.net/story/275485/zootopia-police-racism-race-relations-commentary/ It's really amazing to see pundits take this movie seriously.
  18. What did you think about the "You know you love me" line?
