Joaquin Phoenix has become the best actor working since PSH passed. Isaac was following him closely in 2013-15 but these past few years there's no contest. These streaks never last as long as we want, so in a couple of years someone else will probably take his place, but as the best actor of the decade he's secure I think. (Actress I guess is Amy Adams?)

Pretty much. She's amazing in Clouds of Sils Maria and Personal Shopper because they allow her to be completely natural and relaxed - the opposite of wooden - and act more with quiet, fleeting moments and gestures, which she's more comfortable with than she is with big showy look-at-me stuff. (Not that she's incapable of the latter - her panic attack in PS is one of the best scenes of last year.) She has lots of charisma but it's an introvert's charisma, the opposite of a larger-than-life movie star's. (All you smartasses: spare me your nonsense.)

Love Stewart but really struggling to picture this working.

Prolly for the time he's finally too old to scale buildings and jump from roofs and pilot helicopters and shit. Then he has a kid and the series gets retooled into a hijinks-filled family comedy franchise about how for a 110-year-old Tom Cruise, raising a baby truly is... mission impossible.

Of course they did (with the exception of maybe the last Apes film). An idiosyncratic, serious desert-set post-apocalypse action movie like Mad Max would never even open to 45m without gushing reviews, it'd underperform or bomb outright.

So we got Netflix releases with the clout of the Coens and Cuaron behind them this year. Will be interesting to see if they can improve on Mudbound and break through into the biggest categories, provided they're good/acclaimed enough obviously.

The Queen and X are the only movies in my list not among my personal favorites. Glad I've seen at least one movie that begins with X and is not X-Men though.
