  1. You think after a nearly 60% drop next weekend it's gonna rebound well enough to have a sub-40% hold against Equalizer and Mamma Mia? And then have the same hold against MI6 which may well out-open those two combined? Come down to earth man.

  3. The bawdy-period-piece thing makes my mind go to The Draughtsman's Contract which is one of my favorites. No idea if this can sustain the tone for the entire runtime but I'd love to see it try. Love seeing Stone branching out and Colman getting what looks to be a showcase.
  4. I believe you're confusing me with someone else, unless you just decided to go ahead and make me a mod with no warning.
  5. After all these years I'm still not sure if Christoph Waltz's performance in Big Eyes is terrible or amazing. But, one way or the other, it's definitely the most memorable thing about it.
  6. Big Eyes bad. Master good. Man of Steel and Batman v Superman lol
  7. The only blockbuster post-2010 that I think was clearly snubbed of a BP nod is Inside Out. That's it. (Well, I'd mention a certain other movie from December 2017 but...) Not a bad track record.
  8. Fury Road is part of a franchise and need I remind you of how well that movie did at the Oscars? The LOTR films, too. Plus Star Wars technically wasn't yet a franchise when it got nominated so it'd be even less of an issue anyway. All those old blockbusters I listed and most if not all blockbusters getting nominated today share one relevant thing in common: they were accomplished enough to be in the conversation. If you want to see more blockbusters nominated today how about having them be better movies.
  9. Like what? The Exorcist, Jaws, Star Wars, Raiders, E.T. would still be nominated today I'm sure. And plenty of big movies do get in today as Barnack noted.
  10. My guess is Mudbound would have edged out Molly's Game. But yes Logan only got in there due to lack of options. Shit the screenplay is the weakest part of that movie.
  11. Bring It On is a lot of fun. Formula but done well, a couple of unavoidable eyeroll-inducing moments but then that's much less than you'd expect and by the end everything gets absorbed into the energetic good vibes. Admire that it goes where it does in end and sticks with it. Plus Dunst and Eliza Dushku both shine here. Peyton Reed seriously needs to direct a full-scale musical or three at some point, based on this and Down with Love.
