  1. It won't drop two thirds of its theaters with how strong the PTA holds have been.
  2. I think the movie is enough of a success for A24 to campaign her, at least. Plus she's well-liked and has put in a lot of work and a previous nominee but that was 20 years ago - there's tons of things in her favor.
  3. btw @aabattery you gonna subject yourself to the original Death Wish? show us how much of a fan you really are.
  4. keaton drives me up the wall a little in it but otherwise I fucking adore that movie. that final single take is in my rotation of things to watch when I need to cheer myself up quick. also: denzel giving a masterclass on how to handle a woman politely rejecting you. and generally just playing a guy you'd follow absolutely anywhere. i'm not as crazy about him in general as you are but to me he's easily the MVP of this movie.
  5. Someday you will ask one of us to spare your life for old times' sake, but we won't forgive you this.
  6. Hard to see how it doesn't happen. It's gonna easily reach 99 on its own from here.

  8. I'm not even really fanboying, I just thought Holdo had plenty of haters as well as people who were lukewarm about her? Dern in general is widely liked sure but that's always been the case.
  9. 2018: overall (w/o rewatches) 1. The Florida Project 2. Stray Dog (1949) 3. The Best Years of Our Lives 4. The 400 Blows 5. Diabolique 6. Repo Man 7. Smiles of a Summer Night 8. Strangers on a Train 9. The Incredible Shrinking Man 10. Autumn Sonata
  10. Zack Snyder would have had those people wash their hands dammit.
  11. I would admire the movie a good deal more if it actually killed off Alejandro as unceremoniously as that.
  12. It was a December release to be fair but yeah it had pretty reasonable drops even after the holidays.
  13. I just remembered that not a single Pixar June release since Ratatouille has ever managed a sub-40% third weekend hold, so I didn't see why I2 would, even with no competition, when it'd just had Pixar's worst second weekend hold outside of Cars 2. Movies rebound but they don't go from one extreme to another that quickly. I think Ant-Man and HT3 will combine for family competition that's similar in size to SLOP. 565m seems possible but I'd be surprised if it went past 580, which would require a 4x multi off this weekend.
  14. Yeah. One reason his reaction hit me as hard as it did is that I could imagine myself as a teenager doing the same things he did post-accident. I probably would've been too anxious to leave my little sister unsupervised at a party like that, but still... who really knows. You were doing so well there... but you just HAD to... be you, didn't you?
  15. Death cutting down the dude's tree It's a movie where the first few minutes are so iconic that you can be surprised by what follows even if you've seen it before. Speaking from experience.
  16. saw incredibles 2. Brad Bird still does the best superhero action and comedy around, but on the whole I didn't find it anything more than a nice time-waster. just hits most of the beats of the original again without really adding to them, and with a much more slapdash structure.
  17. Yeah. Maybe 10-20m more if Ant-Man doesn't give it another big ass-whooping next weekend.
  18. An inspiring thread for all future filmmakers
