  1. I'll take A Bug's Life over most of Pixar's post-2010 output. Spacey's Hopper is one of their best villains.

  5. I don't think it's wild. The Tree of Life and Inside Llewyn Davis, two movies with very little GA appeal, started off with the same numbers and both got to $13m even though one came out in the summer and the other was almost ignored by the Academy. I don't think it'll be hard for Moonlight to do better, especially if it gets a BP nom.
  6. Who would have thought that the two biggest PTAs of the year as of late October would belong to Moonlight and Don't Think Twice. With this start I'd say a $15m total would be the floor for Moonlight even without the awards hype. If it gets a BP nom I don't see how it doesn't pass Ex Machina to become A24's biggest grosser.
  7. I'd previously thought that Moonlight would pull a Whiplash/Room and stay in limited release until the nominations, but after such a strong start it would be dumb on A24's part not to expand it into 600+ theaters sometime in early November.
  8. I'm already worried I'm totally gonna succumb to the early/mid-2000s nostalgia. Feels like a virus I can only resist for so much time.
  9. Hell just a regular dollar theater expansion would have gotten it there. Paramount like WB dgaf this year.
  10. I like how two movies have exactly the same number but the one with the much lower budget is the "underperformer" and the other one is still "Cruise missile" even though it's gonna give him something like his 17th best opening weekend.
  11. I think Moonlight will probably pull through and get a Picture nom but can't be sure after the Carol snub.
  12. 1. Boo: A Madea Halloween - $26M Higher 3. Ouija 2 - $29M Higher 4. Hacksaw Ridge - $37M Double 7. Friend Request - $5M Half 9. Bad Santa 2 - $34M Higher 10. Allied - $68M Higher
  13. Bolt is a lot of fun. Shame it underperformed when it came out.
  14. Well we already know how Hacksaw Ridge, Arrival, Trolls, Billy Lynn and La La Land have been received, which helps to predict their legs (or lack thereof) and how high or low they could potentially go.

  17. This will have more room to breathe outside of a packed Oscar season, and if it's good/acclaimed enough for awards they can push it at the end of next year anyway.
  18. No one's gonna care about this OS unless it wins Picture maybe. Even The Help couldn't crack 50m.
