Pairing Amy Adams up with the decade-younger Henry Cavill is one of the few cool things the DCEU has done. And so casually too. If only she got anything to actually do in those movies
I don't remember much surprise at Winter's Bone nomination. It was one of the most acclaimed films of the year. Lawrence's nomination was very much expected too.
12 Years a Slave was predicted to win after Toronto as well, but it was still a really close race. It's still possible Billy Lynn and/or Fences put up more of a fight than we expect them to, or Silence actually appears this year and knocks everyone out.
They did the same with Central Intelligence. Giving fewer and fewer fucks. It's a bit of a shame, I always enjoyed tracking those expansions and watching movies crawl to whatever number way down in the chart, like The Jungle Book is crawling to 364m right now.
Beginners is one of the very few twee/precious/quirky indie comedy-dramas that really work for me, I dunno what the style of this one is but I'm hoping Mills delivers again.
Jeremy Irons - Dead Ringers
David Thewlis - Naked
Naomi Watts - Mulholland Dr.
Jeff Bridges - The Big Lebowski
Robert De Niro - The King of Comedy
John Huston - Chinatown
Enjoyable first hour followed by a glorious finale, with social commentary/message delivered as effectively as in a lot of Pixar/Disney animated films.
