  1. Friends came at the right time, in the UK it aired on the younger skewing Channel 4 in a prime slot and became a hit whereas Seinfeld aired on the BBC in a late show so it never caught on
  2. The UK release is in January and it faces Lego Batman two weeks later, I expect it'll still do decently but it won't reach the heights of SLOP
  3. Lionsgate has likely recouped or almost recouped the budget for PR with the presales It would have been risky putting Sing in the Spring with Beauty and the Beast although it would have forced Smurfs and Boss Baby to move
  4. It's surprising that Sing isn't doing well OS so far, I wonder if Moana might be hurting it in those markets. It has a slow OS rollout so it could pick up pace later on
  5. Universal will probably push the Illumination film back a week to July 12th, I'm surprised Sony didn't opt for a Wednesday opening to capitalise on July 4th holidays. Im assuming Marvel won't release more than 3 films in a year so it'll just Captain Marvel, Avengers and Spider-Man in 2019. Bad Boys 4 probably won't be made or will be pushed back a year. I think WB probably should bring forward their DC film to June 7th to give it more breathing room or possibly move it to the end of July/early August
  6. UK is eOne and Australia was Roadshow for Arrival but most OS territories were handled were Sony. It's not unusual for a film like Arrival to have different distributors, La La Land will have local distributors as Lionsgate doesn't handle OS distribution apart from the UK
  7. They won't be one last ride until Fast 10 and even then that's questionable
  8. It was amusing in parts but it does feel like a 21 Jump Street rip off. It'll probably do decently but Zac seriously needs to take a break from comedy roles
  9. I'm sure the studios know which places will do solid business for the limited release of the Oscar contender. I know the Arclight usually gets the limited releases but does a big multiplex like the AMC Empire 25 get them since they can accommodate them
  10. In the updated IMAX press release from this year, King Arthur wasn't mentioned so I wonder if the planned IMAX release has been cancelled in favour of another WB film
  11. That would make sense, I wonder if Alien won't have IMAX overseas due to King Arthur or it'll have a week before Pirates.
  12. I wonder if King Arthur will have limited IMAX screens since Disney will want to have Guardians 2 to have as many IMAX screens as possible.
  13. Dax Shepherd is co-directing the Scooby Doo animated film so WB must think CHiPs has potential
  14. King Arthur probably wouldn't have got IMAX in its original slot due to Beauty and the Beast in its second week and I think Ghost in the Shell has IMAX
  15. We can guess which tentpole WB doesn't have much faith in since Kong and WW kept their original slots. WB have had success with May tentpoles in the second and third week of May with Great Gatsby, Godzilla, Mad Max etc but I'm thinking King Arthur isn't going to be as successful
  16. Adult drama can do well but I suspect the ROI isn't great compared to a blockbuster, Sully has done $200m WW on a $60m budget which is decent and profitable but ancillary revenue is minimal compared to a tentpole. It's also the reason why romcoms are pretty much dead, Bridget Jones's Baby flopped in the US but was succcesful OS so there's an untapped market
  17. We saw this last week with A United Kingdom which jumped three places during the week,
  18. Given The Revenant went seriously over budget, I think Fox were relieved it did as well as it did as they actually made a profit.
  19. Audrey Hepburn was digitally recreated for a Galaxy/Dove ad a few years back not to mention Fast 7 which had to create a digital Paul Walker to finish the film
  20. Estates can be swayed with money, if Laurence Olivier can be digitally recreated, i wouldn't rule out seeing a digital version of a deceased actor have a role in a film one day
  21. I think Bay wanted Connery for the third Transformers film as Sentinel Prime but they cast Leonard Nimoy instead.
  22. I wonder if Bay wanted Sean Connery but couldn't get him out of retirement so went for Hopkins
