I mean you can't just say "well this did well ignoring that it did badly in other areas". That being said Rogue One did pretty well OS for a spin-off it's just the Domestic total was greater than expected. Star Wars has done well OS but the trend from Rogue One, TLJ and Solo (TFA numbers are an anomaly let's face it) are showing some concerning declines.

This just put even more pressure on Episode IX to deliver. First Episode without any of the main OT characters. That'll be the test on whether Disney/Lucasfilm have done a good job of transitioning the franchise into a new era or not. But yeah of course Star Wars isn't dead though if I were Disney any plans of releasing two Star Wars films a year I would take a long look at after Solo's numbers come out.

Australia Australian Box Office | ....
Darth Lehnsherr replied to JJ-8's topic in International Box Office
Literally no one I've talked to had any plans to see it this weekend. Though it is currently uni exam period. Week before all my friends saw Deadpool 2 however.- 10,875 replies

We don't need a film for both. I know all I need to know about them both. Now if the Boba Fett film was set AFTER ROTJ that would get my attention somewhat as at least you're moving the story forward with him and you can deal with how the galaxy is after the Empire's defeat and Jabba's death. But at this point even if i was mixed on TLJ just give me Rian Johnson's trilogy because at least that's something new.

Marvel got so lucky with the Russo Brothers. Yes Feige gets the credit for picking them to do Winter Soldier but I don't think even he would have known how well equipped they were going to be to take on Infinity War and (fingers crossed it's good) Avengers 4. It helps also the Russo Brothers have stuck with the exact same core production team for Winter Soldier, Civil War, Infinity War and Avengers 4.

Well James Mangold did praise Rian Johnson for TLJ. Maybe he heard good things from Rian with regards to how Kathleen Kennedy works. The again perhaps he should also talk to 4 other directors about that too.... And the whole "nobody asked for it" excuse doesn't land for me IMO. Did anyone ask for Guardians of the Galaxy? Weren't people for years begging that a Justice League movie be made? Disney simply failed to generate interest for this film. The reasons why that was well that's for you to decide.

Can't believe my cricket team the Melbourne Renegades' home stadium will be called Marvel Stadium lol -
Count me as someone who watched Star Wars Rebels (and really liked it for the most part btw). Now I have to see this film tmrw because I can't believe they actually put Darth Maul in a film haha. Obviously the reveal is to the GA is that Maul survived The Phantom Menace (and let's face it the majority of Solo's audience would have seen The Phantom Menace by now so it's not a big deal).

The Box Office Buzz and Tracking Thread: Electric Boogaloo
Darth Lehnsherr replied to grim22's topic in Numbers and Data
Yeah this would be a bigger shock to me than Justice League. BvS did "only" gross $330M so a $30M+ decline for JL was in the realm of possibility (still unthinkable of course and how MUCH that film declined was the real shock). But yeah Solo doing under $300M would be worse because if that happened I can't see a scenario where it gets even close to JL's Overseas numbers. Maybe it's me ignoring the signs but I still firmly believe this easily does over $300M but definitely my expectations have gone down over the past week for this film.
