Because WBIE is the only other profitable business WB has outside of HBO. Seriously WBIE just had a HUGE success with Multiversus and they have Gotham Knights coming in October. Next year they have Hogwarts Legacy (going to be huge!), Suicide Squad and Wonder Woman, plus several other titles… Zaslav would be foolish to sell

I’m referring to that, the whole half the crew threatened to quit because of Covid/safety, and the whole 25-30% still needs to be filmed… obviously it’s all just rumors and the more I looked into it, the source of them are unreliable (ie they’re either hit and miss or only know stuff about movies due to test screenings). These “scoopers” are getting ridiculous! We would have heard all about the shooting, the backstage drama and Blue Beetle being unfinished by the trades if all of that were actually true! Hell if a shooting happened to a Hollywood production, it’s be all over the news, especially on Univision/Telemundo since it happened in Puerto Rico allegedly

But WBD are the ones that funded it so they can’t cancel it and use it as a tax write off. Batgirl and Scoob were funded by AT&T WB so Zaslav could cancel the films and claim them as pre merger expenses, can’t do that for Blue Beetle (started filming 2 weeks or so after merger). On a side note, I really hope the recent rumors surrounding Blue Beetle’s production are BS, otherwise Zaslav has another nightmare to deal with. Seems like they’re false tho since they’re coming from the clout chasers, I mean scoopers, on Twitter

There is quite a lot of properties WBA/WAG can adapt from DC that are lesser known like Big Hero 6 was. Zoo Crew is one, Metal Men is another but my top picks would be Doom Patrol, Legion of Superheroes, and the Milestone properties not named Static. I could even see Blackhawk’s and Wildcats/Stormwatch from DC’s Wildstorm working as well. Doubt any of those properties will get the live action theatrical experience any time soon

Well if the rumor mill is to be believed, he’s going to be the DCEU Green Arrow, so he already has a franchise role locked up if that’s the case

I never take anyone seriously when they say WW84 was a flop. I mean sure on paper it lost money and it’s box office looks poor compared to the other DCEU films, but that’s only when you ignore context. WW84 came out during the peak of Covid, when there was no vaccines readily available, everyone but China was in lockdown mode and in the USA only something like 1/3 of theaters were open, not at full capacity mind you. Plus the biggest movies markets in the USA were completely shut down (LA, NYC, SF) on top of all that, it was a day and date release too. My expectations for Black Adam are MOS numbers. I think it’ll be a hit internationally

Moving Flash to October would mess up WB’s DC schedule. Have to delay Batgirl and Blue Beetle as well. I say just get Flash over with already and switch it with Aquaman in June. That way you have: March: The Flash April: Last Train to New York June: Aquaman 2 July: Barbie August: Blue Beetle September: Meg 2 October: Batgirl November: Dune 2 December: Wonka/ Color Purple That fixes WB’s schedule, now let’s fix the rest of the slat: JANUARY Kraven The Hunter FEBRUARY Dungeons & Dragons Ant-Man & The Wasp 3 MARCH Haunted Mansion The Flash John Wick 4 APRIL Super Mario Bros Last Train to New York The Little Mermaid MAY Guardians of the Galaxy 3 Fast X JUNE Aquaman 2 Transformers: Rise of the Beasts Across The Spider-Verse Indiana Jones 5 JULY Madame Web Mission Impossible: Dead Reckoning Barbie The Marvels AUGUST Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Blue Beetle Oppenheimer SEPTEMBER The Meg 2 A Quiet Place Spin-off OCTOBER Batgirl Paw Patrol Scream 6 NOVEMBER Dune 2 The Hunger Games Spin-off Trolls 3 DECEMBER Wonka The Color Purple Ghostbusters

2023 Box Office Predictions and Discussion
El Gato replied to Eric the IF's topic in Box Office Discussion
WB better play up the Latino angle with Blue Beetle, if they do so then it’ll break out! 1/5 of the USA population is Latino, yet we barley appear in Hollywood films. Talk about being underserved and underrepresented! Blue Beetle has strong family ties too so that’ll definitely appeal to Latinos (ala Coco). -

I agree with those 5 being the top 5 but I think Kamala would be lower since Jessica and Damian have had longer lasting series and Jaime has appeared in more high profile projects. But we’re getting off topic lol! Hoping the Blue Beetle film makes bank at the box office! The character deserves it -
2023 Box Office Predictions and Discussion

I’d put Jaime above Kamala. In my view the most popular characters of the last 20 years are: 1. Spider-Man (Miles Morales) 2. Robin (Damian Wayne) 3. Blue Beetle (Jaime Reyes) 4. Green Lantern (Jessica Cruz) 5. Ms Marvel (Kamala Khan) 6. X-23 (Laura Kinney) 7. Superboy (Jon Kent) 8.. Ghost Rider (Robbie Reyes) 9. Nova (Sam Alexander) 10. Wonder Girl (Yara Flor) Basically legacy characters are the only ones with staying power, originals don’t stick anymore. Interestingly enough 6/10 are Latino characters -
That’s literally the excuse people use for whenever a female character becomes popular!? It’s annoying! Could it be that maybe people find her compelling? Relatable? Cool? Nah it’s just cause she’s hot… On a side note, I’m curious how DC does Zatanna/Raven. Hopefully they’re as cool as Scarlett Witch

You do realize DC is WB’s bread and butter right? That’s their biggest franchise and their theatrical slates success relies heavily on them. Why punish other actors for Ezra’s behavior? Gal Gadot (Wonder Woman), Jason Mamoa (Aquaman), The Rock (Black Adam), Zachary Levi (Shazam), Xolo Mariduena (Blue Beetle) and Leslie Grace (Batgirl) aren’t problematic and shouldn’t have their movies/sequels canceled because Ezra can’t control his temper. At this point WB just needs to recast the role, do what Marvel did with the Hulk.

The difference between this and ITH, WSS is that first of all this a superhero film, second it’ll focus on Mexican/Mexican Americans (proven to be a recipe for success) and features a popular Brazilian actress (Bruna). Think it’ll break out in the Latin American markets that matter (Mexico and Brazil), and Latinos in the USA will definitely show up for it. Might skew younger though as Xolo and Blue Beetle are more known with Gen Z and younger Millennials. Either way the film just needs a good action packed trailer to interest people plus character development. Jaime has a very relatable and amazing story in the comics plus his powers are visually appealing so I feel WB will have a breakout hit here!

Hopefully that restructuring by Zaslav happens sooner rather than later because WB needs a drastic overhaul! Batman fails to reach 800M let alone a billion FB3 will fail to reach 500M those are their biggest franchises, so the studio is definitely in trouble, especially with only 4 other films this year, 3 of them DC. Hopefully Super Pets, Black Adam and Shazam 2 break out for them, otherwise yikes!
