Regardless of what you think of J.K. Rowling, you do have to feel bad for any child actor who gets involved in this. They won’t know what they’re in for.

They have to justify the show’s existence to the public somehow.

If they had to rename the service, because they thought the HBO branding was too confusing, could they not have simply picked a different name, like WarnerMax or something?

As I recall, Marvel’s obsession with preventing spoilers more or less started with IW.

At this point, opening above Ant-Man 3 with decent word of mouth might as well be considered a win. Superhero fatigue has officially arrived. It wouldn’t surprise me if video game movies become the new thing.

None of the Marvel movies released in 2021 got released in China. Before BP2, the last Marvel movie to get released over there was FFH. As for Avatar. That seems to be one of the exceptions. Even so, the movie didn’t exactly break records over there.

It was supposed to be, but Mr. Diesel insisted on making it a two parter.

It seems the Chinese government has been actively making things harder for Hollywood movies in the 2020s, out of some nationalistic desire for the Chinese film industry to flourish.

This movie’s box office numbers are basically what some of us on these forums thought Detective Pikachu was going to be.

It’s a Disney film produced by Kathleen Kennedy. Of course those people are gonna find a reason to be mad about it.

I don’t know about that. There were definitely some people here who acted like the reviews were going to be the kiss of death for this movie.

Ursula’s the villain though? Why would they be concerned about her song being problematic, especially after they made Scar an incel?

I haven’t read the books since I was a kid, but I don’t know if they’re really compelling enough to justify giving each one its own season. It would be one thing if the movies didn’t exist, but as it stands, it’s a story we’ve already seen before, and it would be a pretty tall order for them overtake the films in the cultural consciousness. Of course, if they absolutely have to retell the story, it does at least make more sense to do it as a TV show, rather than doing it with another seven or eight films. That would’ve been a complete disaster.

It never made sense to release this on Christmas. That’s a Monday this year.

If any movie in today’s age should be critic proof, I would think it would be this.

They probably think the reason the Fantastic Beasts films didn’t work out was because they didn’t involve the OG trio. I’m sure they would’ve rather made a TFA-style sequel with the original cast, but I’m guessing that would be too difficult at the moment for a few reasons, so this is their next “best” thing.

It just occurred to me that the last MCU film that wasn’t a sequel was Eternals.

Really? They’re using the Earth-199999 label, when that’s not even what the MCU uses?

I’m pretty sure no one asked for a Harry Potter reboot, but a television reboot makes slightly more sense than doing it in movie form. I do have to wonder if this is desperation on Rowling’s part. Her company’s profits did take a massive hit recently.

At this point, I’m half-expecting to hear about how Zaslav wants Christopher Nolan to make a fourth Batman movie.
