I don’t. but I’d like Parasite to get more recognition, and if it keeps flopping at critics groups. I doubt it will get anything outside of foreign category in the televised awards.
also awarding Scorsese again is a boring choice imo.
That's not the only reason I don't like Scorsese, though I only have prejudice against films I haven't seen. and I've seen everything from Bong (his korean language stuff anyway)
if Parasite doesn't surprise and only gets noms instead of wins outside of international category. then Netflix will probably win picture/director/both screenplays and probably 1 or 2 of the acting prizes.
don't think NBR changes much for the best picture line up. Joker will pick up momentum and buzz in the globes (like BR last year).
though I'm more inclined to add Ford v Ferrari.
uncut gems getting screenplay out of nowhere....
also yikes at those director/best film wins
Joker & Parasite nowhere to be seen in the top 10 is disappointing.
snubbing Irishman from best drama and director is interesting and I'll take the tea.
I know the Satellite awards aren't a good indicator for the Oscars but no best pic winner has missed a nomination here before right? (director too).
also they clearly haven't seen Little Women because no way it gets completely shunned out.
Captain Marvel was on the higher tier of MCU movies and it's also the highest grossing solo MCU film of all time domestically. (not counting spin-offs like Black Panther).
Pugh looks good here, can't judge much else from the teaser except some unpolished CGI which is w/e cus the movie is 5 months away.
the bar of success for MCU movies in my book is 1 billion+ and dunno if this one will pull it off but it shouldn't have that much trouble, especially with a premium May (or late April) release date.
99% of the time Best Picture winner gets either a screenplay win or a director win (or both), and Greta is unlikely to win director while adapted screenplay is probably going to the irishman or jojo rabbit. I hope I'm wrong and Little Women does better in those categories but it doesn't seem like it.
Molly's Game deserved more recognition. it didn't do much at the Oscars other than a screenplay nom for Sorkin but Jessica Chastain got a golden globe nomination.
edit: STX also got another acting golden globe nomination for Hailee Steinfeld in The Edge of Seventeen.
Roma & Parasite are very different in terms of accessibility and audience appeal. I doubt Roma would've made anywhere close to Parasite even with a proper release.
Parasite has made over 120M WW with only like 70M from its home country. I don't see a film like Roma coming close to matching that number.
which is more likely to happen: Parasite winning best picture while Scorsese wins director, OR The Irishman winning best picture while Bong gets Director?
