Also Martin Scorsese once signed a petition calling for the release of a convicted pedophile from prison, if you think those type of people's opinions should have more value on Hollywood issues over people who actually try to let people of color find jobs in Hollywood then you're probably part of the problem. Scorsese probably hates Marvel movies because they have too many women and not enough old white men like the rest of his filmography. I bet he'd like Joker though

I've never heard of this film until I started following the box office (for obv reasons), and I don't think it's that popular outside of western countries.

you can build buzz with Oscar campaigns, which is where the money comes in. also Netflix as a production company are incapable of producing films like ROMA, they only acquired the distribution rights.

one thing people seem to forget is that the Oscars are for awarding the films with the most Oscar buzz, not the best films in general. and a lot of the time the buzz is more important than the quality of the movie.

the early reviews being mixed is not an opinion that you can disagree with. you can disagree with the critics's opinions on the films being good or not but you can't pretend that the critical reception is something that it isn't and you don't need a critic to validate your opinion of a movie anyway. besides there are plenty of great movies with mixed reviews so I'm not sure why that's an issue. (Aquaman, Joker, Aladdin, Alita and IT Chapter 2 just this year).

I know this is a hot take but I think Dune could break out on holiday season next year and make a run for 300M, if it's more accessible than usual Villeneuve movies.
