  1. I am impressed by the way it's sold post social bump. Expected a bit of a drop but has just kept going.
  2. 13 isn't worst case, it's just where I think it's heading. I could see it going lower if it just falls off completely at night.
  3. Visuals look good in this one, better than what we've seen previously. Shadar Logoth seems like it will be nice. And I was loving it right up until the end, when (spoilers for the books in case someone is reading through this thread later):
  4. Dune midday is at 80724/534169, $965536. I think it's heading for 120k+, which will be ~70% of Bond at least. Given that MTC1 has a better ratio, I think 13 million Friday is where it's headed.
  5. Including Robin is one thing (and I fully support including him) but I don't think this particular movie would work. Generally people do want a decent dose of action from superhero movies.
  6. Maybe but TSS was a fan-loaded film released in the summer and stayed flat on Saturday. I see Dune having an increase, even if a small one.
  7. Iirc it wasn't taken from Del Toro, it was just greenlit pretty late and he had moved on to other stuff. If they had been timely about it, probably could have gotten him back. I really wish they had. His absence was really obvious from the start.
  8. And it flopped. The lower budget made it look way worse and even those who liked the original (including me, one of my favorite action movies) could tell what a downgrade it was from the trailer.
  9. I think Robin can be pulled off. But really needs to right actor to fit in, especially with a movie of this tone.
  10. Yeah Dune 1984 had a higher budget than ROTJ and looks so much worse. I don't think it's a case of not aging well, it straight up doesn't look good.
  11. Honestly I didn't find the visuals in the trailer to be anything bad, just nothing too special as what was hyped, as long as there's some more spectacular stuff in the actual movie I will be satisfied.
  12. I listened to a reaction that said most of the trailer stuff is from early in the film and also said the best visual moments are in the third act. I'm hopeful that it ends up being true.
  13. Two tracks from the OST have been released. The Eternals Theme is decent, in the upper half of MCU themes but nothing immediately iconic like Avengers/Black Panther themes. "Across the Oceans of Time" is really good though, I wonder if this piece is a love theme for Ikaris and Sersi maybe?
  14. Finally I got previews right after a while (5.1 is close enough to 5).
  15. Overall, I found this to be pretty enjoyable. What I liked: Visuals were great and immersive, on the big screen it felt like something truly epic. I thought the worldbuilding was done as well as can be expected in movie form. Obviously much was cut out from the book but it still felt very authentic. Chalamet was very good as Paul, also really liked Oscar Isaac as Leto and Momoa as Duncan Idaho. Bautista really looks the part as Rabban. Overall, I was invested in the story without having to fall back on my investment from the book, which was good. What I didn't like: The score was really bad. Zimmer just did the WHAM BAM thing all the time and hardly ever let a scene breathe. I really hate this style of film score and don't understand why it's become so popular. I felt like, while simplification was inevitable, there was some oversimplification from the book. I would have liked to see the element where the Harkonnens tried to make Jessica look like a traitor. In general I felt like the political intrigue elements were underdeveloped, though I understand that it's risky to go too heavy on such things in a blockbuster intended to attract a wide audience. I felt like Jessica's character was made too emotional, while Gurney was made too cold. Hawat was barely in the movie which was disappointing. Would have preferred a bit of exposition on Mentats in general. The ending was a bit abrupt but I didn't really see a better way to do it, they at least cut it off in a way that feels like a major point in Paul's arc. Overall: A/A- (still deciding)
  16. Did the first scene with the Harkonnens feel chopped off to anyone else? Maybe it's just expectations from the book (where they explain their entire plan in the equivalent scene) but it felt like it ended really abruptly. I wonder if there was initially supposed to be more there.
  17. You didn't have Bond final Thu right? I thought it would have been higher than that but it did crash at night.
