  1. I just find it a bit weird if the general consensus is this sequel better than the first, how can the movie get 70% RT positive? But anyway, now I am sort of understand why they push the review embargo so last minute. I still think the movie is landing at mid-80% and given that so much critics have seen the movie, it is unlikely to see downward movement throughout the run.
  2. I feel like 2nd wave review is as strong as the first wave. How can this lean towards low 80 or even 70+ ?
  3. Now I am sort of understand why they split reaction and review so far apart, is to provide new bump to the presale by maintaining great reaction and goodwill, helped further by multiple award nominations.
  4. Good to see some slowdown in presale, we need some containment on expectation for A2. I don't wish to see people calling A2 flop with $2bn+ gross like TLK. China presale also see some slowdown, reminding people China is still a restricted market with people STILL very scared of Covid-19.
  5. That is why people have to stay caution about their expectation on China BO. Have to remember, the easing applied to low/medium risk area. That means, high risk area is still highly subjected to lockdown mode. We can only pray the case don't spike so soon, majority of the Chinese still don't see Covid-19 as common flu and panic can kill BO sales easily. 6. Yes, I think we need to keep our expectation in check. Now I am more leaning towards $2.5bn. $3bn is in play if A2 is really that lucky in China and public really go crazy on 3D.
  7. Date Rank Gross %YD %LW Theaters Per Theater Total Gross Days Dec 9, 2022 2 $2,420,000 +140% -50% 3,723 $650 $20,414,315 8 Dec 10, 2022 2 $3,890,000 +61% -27% 3,723 $1,045 $24,304,315 9 Dec 11, 2022 2 $2,390,000 -39% -26% 3,723 $642 $26,694,315 10 Strong hold for VN! Hope the movie can stay alive throughout year end holiday season and become a Kingsman of 2022 as action comedy. Still on track for 800m? It gonna need some strong holiday boost in domestic market. The overseas is pretty much done by next week.
  8. I thought the reaction to HFR was quite decent? In fact, the early reaction indicate that this is the best use of HFR. I recall the reaction to Gemini Man, Billy Lynn and Hobbit was way way harsher than Avatar 2. I even saw some praise to the HFR. Before the reaction reveal, HFR and runtime are the two most worrisome aspect and most likely to attract backlash but the reaction came out didn't indicate intense attack after all.
  9. I really hope A2 get A+ cinemascore to keep this rivalry with TGM well alive.
  10. I think The Walk worth to be remembered. The 3D effect make me realised how much vertigo I have in my body.
  11. And now a more upbeat Fablemans gross lesser than WSS.
  12. Every movie should have a great hold this weekend, 20% drop in average I guess. Quickly grab your money before the storm!
  13. Box Office: Avatar: The Way Of Water sells over 4 lakh tickets worth Rs 16 crore for the opening weekend | PINKVILLA Box Office: Avatar: The Way Of Water sells over 4 lakh tickets worth Rs 16 crore for the opening weekend At the moment, Avengers: End Game holds the record for biggest pre-sales of all time with an All-India Gross Advance of Rs 80 crore, and Avatar 2 will be targeting to take the second spot in the list, with sales around Rs 60 crore for the weekend at all India level. For those unaware, Spiderman: No Way Home had clocked a weekend advance of Rs 40 crore plus and at the moment holds the second spot in the list for biggest advance.
  14. Deng Chao, Zhang Ziyi to dub Chinese version of 'Avatar 2' - China.org.cn The Chinese version of the upcoming epic sci-fi sequel "Avatar: The Way of Water" will have a star-studded voice cast, including renowned husband-wife duo Deng Chao and Sun Li, internationally famous Zhang Ziyi, as well as Huang Xuan. "Avatar: The Way of Water," stunningly shot and beautifully made using the most advanced and mature film production technologies developed by James Cameron, will be released nationwide on Dec. 16, the same date as the United States and many other international markets. Some advanced screenings are arranged for Dec. 14, and the Chinese premiere is set for Dec. 12.
  15. Say whatever about the 3D, but I am pretty sure 3D reception will be far better than 2D crowd, unless for people who develop motion sickness easily. All reaction praise and highlight 3D works beautifully and effectively. Even the less positive or negative review didn't bash 3D. That is the first sign that 3D will be major part of the word-of-mouth later in general public. I am glad most PLF force 3D, don't waste 3D technology when that is where the competitive advantage against streaming.
  16. Isn't it the presale tends to slow down over the weekend?
  17. Most parts of the world see Covid-19 now as common seasonal flu that come back every winter. Western countries started the transition that in second half 2021 while Asian live with it in early this year but in China, the government was still insists Covid-19 is highly dangerous (as if it is a HIV virus), only to take sudden U-turn in recent days.
  18. I think the expectation for China BO need to adjusted accordingly. People are getting way too excited to the point that they thought the situation over there is as open as in USA. In fact, it remain super fluid and fast changing. Yes, things are on positive trajectory but to highlight, many in China still scared of getting Covid-19. Releasing A2 now is like releasing GvK back in Mar 2021 in domestic market.
